krustie22
Kuda and I have decided we would like to enter our first Agility Trial (well it is Jumpers, not Agility) but I am not sure what else I have to do!? I have registered with CCCQ and Kuda is now on the Associate Register. I have filled out the Show/Trial form, but what do i put for height? who measures her? I am pretty sure from what i have been told we will be jumping 400. Do i just put that? How does it work? Is there anyone else I need to register with/pay money to? We are super excited! I hope we have trained enough for all the wonderful distractions!
aussielover
Do you train with a club? I think you need 2 judges to measure and sign off on the height card. If you belong to a club they should have people who can help you out.

Also, i noticed there is something called vetting before the trial, do you know what this is?

I would try and get it done before the trial, as they can sometimes be a bit chaotic and you don't want to be running around trying to get your height card sorted, on top of everything else. As far as I know vetting is not always done at every trial, but I assume it is just to make sure the dogs are fit to run and are the correct height? But not sure... Good luck! I am also keen to start trialling. Unfortunately I just found out that dogs have to be 18 months old to trial (I thought it was 12 with ANKC), so it looks like we won't be able to trial until next year as my dog isn;t old enough until Oct/Nov and there are few comps over summer. Ok i hope i can get the height thing sorted! I had no idea! HAHA can i take the dog to other trials that are on and get the judges (before hand) to do the height card then? (i would contact the club first for permission or whatever) Maybe I should have waited longer before the trial! that is a bummer about the age! on the bright side, 6 more months to fine tune! ;)
pie
If your dog is a boy you needn't worry about vetting - it is to check whether bitches are in season. Don't know about over east but here in WA we have a notice in our canine journal that lists members of the measuring committee and their contact details. One last question tho, I am not sure if i have filled out the right form for the trial. It is a Show Entry Form my mum gave me. Do i have to fill one out for novice and a separate for open etc? huski
I've only competed in obedience but in QLD every dog on the ground has to be vetted regardless of sex.
Agility Dogs
I've only competed in obedience but in QLD every dog on the ground has to be vetted regardless of sex. Hey Huski, For agility that depends on the club/trial manager. Some clubs want to see every dog walk (ridiculous - there is no way they'd pick up anything from that) while others just look at entire bitches while others don't look at any of the dogs. ADAA vet by exception rather than as a rule. Cheers T
**Super_Dogs**
Krustie - Is that the Metro comp? I though entries had closed????? I have not entered - I compete with ADAA and there is a comp the day before. But I was thinking I would come and have a look.
huski
Ah thanks Tony! I forgot about ADAA seeing as Ive only competed in ANKC trials. Every ANKC trial I've been too required every dog to be vetted and for each owner to walk it up and down but I wasn't sure if that would be the same for agility. DeltaCharlie
Wow I have never had anyone look at how my dogs walk before a comp. I can think of quite a few dogs trialling in NSW who would be excluded just because they can't walk, let alone jump which is really sad to see out there I don't know why their owners insist on trialling the poor things... but that is off track. Vetting for ANKC and ADAA has always been just for entire bitches wherever I have trialled, and that is across 4 different states/ territories. I have never trialled in QLD though. I had my dogs measured before their second trial (nobody could do it before their first although it was obvious they would be 500s) and I just emailed the trial secretary to let her know they would need measuring. A few others were being done at the same time. I know enough judges now though that I will have Whip done before he trials. I use the multi-entry agility forms which allow up to 7 classes to be entered on one form. I assume it will say on the schedule if single entry forms are required, otherwise we always send off the multi ones no matter what state. I can email you a copy of the excel version if you like and you just have to type in the details and make the necessary changes for each new trial. If you are a member of the agility australia yahoo list they have a copy for download in their files section. Otherwise http://www.agilitynsw.com.au/ have a pdf version that you can print and handwrite the details in. Good luck and have fun

DeltaCharlie
Haha, Delta was desexed at 6 months, you can't even find her bits to check LOL I could just imagine if they decided to go looking through all the desexed bitches with hidden girly bits, the trials would take forever to get started! Every ANKC trial I've been too required every dog to be vetted and for each owner to walk it up and down but I wasn't sure if that would be the same for agility. ;) That'd be right - train at an ADAA club and then forget about it....... ADAA's entry forms all state that formal vetting will not be conducted, but that the right is reserved to vet any dog on the day of the trial. I've only had the dogs 'vetted' at two clubs - all those trials were held in conjunction with obedience trials and the obedience people were handing out the numbers. I've since trialled at both clubs and not had to have the dogs looked at.

PAX
Vetting details will be in the trial catalogue for each trial, whether you need to vet or not, you usually have to check into the vetting table to collect your numbers. It;s great if you can get a height card beforehand but often people just guess their dogs height (not too hard) and get measured on the day of the trial, just make a note on your entry that you will need a height card if you don't get one before you enter.
