:( I don't know what to do they sent the email with the info for the judges exam today she is the only dog down to do an Intermediate routine for both classes I will have about 25 min between them - DWD before HTM but the killer is she will be 12 days post her second injection (I gather she only needs to be rested a few days) and I can go back to leash walking her but it still seems a long way from "trialling her" and its all still up in the air. Her shoulder still has a long way to go - she can't manage a swim yet without being sore. I know she could do it fine I just don't know what the consequence will be. Is it a case of having to give up something now to ensure she is 100% long term. Grrrrrrr I feel bad they do sound like they are counting on her.

oh Ness, I feel for you :( I don't know what to say. It is hard to know what to do if they are relying on you. Do you know how many other ppl are going to be there?

Yeah that is the problem they have 9 routines - 5 DWD, 4 HTM - 2 of which are suppose to be Kenz's :(.

Its not made any easier by knowing the fact Kenz is dying to be allowed to do something - she is happiest when she is working and I know she would give 110% of herself regardless. Never mind the fact I am itching to be allowed to do something with her as well . We are both a little stir crazy .

Alright I have decided I will do the "polite" bit and email the person organising it and explain and then take the decision totally out of my hands by asking her ortho specialist on Tuesday. Seems fair enough at this stage. We are suppose to be taking the conservative route and he has said when I get to reintroducing activities we will talk specifics. I can send him through the video of her routine and see what he has to say.

There are a few concerns about the surface they are going to use if its the same as the one they had a mock trial - well concerns if you have a dog recovering from a ligament injury as the carpet was a little slippery.

I don't know why you even considered doing anything with Kenz, the welfare of your dog should always come first.

The creed upon which this sport was started is, "Always treat the dog with respect and Never put the dog in harm's way".

BC4Me I am considering it because she should be ok by then and is bored out of her little brain. If we are back training at home there is no reason why she shouldn't do it. We are taking things a day at a time and will do what the specialist thinks is best.

She did the trainee judges exam while she was in a similar level of soreness and it had absolutely no untoward effects on her injury at that stage and it also didn't impact on her ability in anyway.

If it was noticeable or she wasn't enjoying it then I would obviously not force her to do something. Its also not like I am asking her to go out and run an agility course. She is being leash walked a couple of kilometers a day at the moment and not coming up sore so she is doing something.

Any way I feel the specialist is the most qualified person to answer the question and he knows the rigors of performance activities so I will therefore defer to his better judgement.

We are also talking about an injury which at this stage if she was a pet dog (even an active pet dog) you would probably just leave her be and just opt to rest her if she came up sore after doing anything.

Sally asking Kenzie to do one, let alone two "intermediate" routines is asking her to do more than run and agility course. An intermediate routine should be around the 3 minute mark and contain many demanding move ie twists, turns, possible jumps and tricks which challenge the dog, you and your dog should show control in all aspects of the routine. How often do you see 3-4 minute agility courses?

As you say Kenzie has been crated and is "bored out of her brain" so given Kenzie's high drive she will not do things in a controlled manner she will be jumping out of her skin to run and do things, so the risks of her injurying herself again would far outway the idea that she will be fit and strong enough to perform.

DWD is a demanding sport and should be taken seriously with the well being of the dog should becoming first.

A specialist can adivse you but I believe you should be the one to say "yes" or "no" my dog is not 100% fit enough to compete.

You wrote on the 7th January (sorry don't know how to do multiple quotes) that you are concerned about the floor and that Ness is a long way off trialling and that she can't manage a swim yet, there seems to be more reasons why NOT to do your routines than there are to do them.

My dogs health and fitness come way before any performance and I would like to think that the judges would prefer her not to perform than run the risk of her hurting herself.

Just email them back and say sorry my dog is still recoverying from an ongoing injury and isn't fit enough to perform, I don't see what the big deal is. They still have another 7 routiines to judge.

 kallistar. Well Kenz is officially out of action for a bit :(. Specialist wants her on the rehab protocol he would otherwise use for dogs that have had joint surgery :(. It is what I somewhat anticipated but it was nice to live in hope for a little while even if it was brief. Edited by ness

Ness, Glad that you now know what the specialist want Kenz to do. How long does he think that rehab will go for? Please give Kenz a cuddle for me

How long is a piece of string - hmmm its rest for 4 days then we can start at 4 x 1.5km walks and add 10% to the total twice a week. If she goes backwards she gets a solid days rest and we go back to the level before.

Will pass on your cuddle she has had a hard time recovering from the sedation but when she recovered OMG she is going to be hard to keep confined.

Well I now have heaps of songs to work with, just got to work out which ones to use. Does anyone know how to make two hoops into Hearts?

Also can anyone remember if women in uniform wore pants during the war? and what hat? Also what did women wear in general in that era?

Ness how is Kenz today?

What about a bit of poly pipe covered in ribbon that you can have dowel inside to add structure to it.

Kenz is recovering slower then last time - specialist apparently gave her slightly more sedative and its knocked her around. Last 2 days she has had a badly upset tummy :( - she is a little perkier tonight though.

:( regarding Kenz, it is bad enough when we have upset tummies, let alone our furkids. Happy to hear though that she is perkier tonight.

Thanks for your suggestion Ness, will give it a go over the coming week so that I start putting a routine together as time is ticking away too fast for the March comp,

Now to those who might of been around in the war years, did any women wear pants? I am looking into the period for one of the songs that I plan to do.

thanking you all in advance for any suggestions that you might have

Its worse kallistar when having an upset tummy required 5 baths yesterday - bloody coated dogs and Kenz certainly has very fluffy pants :(. I wasn't so keen on the 2 middle of the night toilet stops either and her decision to try and attempt to chase a neighbours cat at midnight. Suffice to say all toilet stops thereafter were on a harness not just her lead and collar.

I just heard back about a demo she was suppose to be involved with and they are a little disappointed as she is one of the better routines. Can't help it unfortunately :(.

Sorry to hear Kenz is unwell following her procedure. Have you tried giving her plain boiled pumpkin it worked last time Sooty had the runs.

Let them be disappointed, rather than Kenz to risk further injury. After all you've both been through so far it's best to be safe than sorry.

I'm assuming you mean WWII? The Pacific is replaying at the moment, can't remember which night though.
