Cosmolo
Thats what i hope Melz but who knows. I think both are pretty powerful looking dogs when they are doing certain activities but thankfully most people don't seem too scared of them. Fingers crossed. It makes me think twice about adopting another bull breed type rescue in the future though.
melzawelza
I only have experience with NSW ACO too, not Vic
tdierikx
With the current bull breed hysteria after the latest media hype about the attack on that little girl... I'm thinking right now any bull breed looking dog could be under scrutiny if out in public unrestrained... Actual reported dog attack statistics don't have the bull breeds at the very top of the list - but the non bull breed dog attacks don't seem to make it to the front pages of the newspapers... grrr! I'm still wondering where all of these "pit bulls" and crosses are coming from - seeing as they are a totally restricted breed in Australia... *sigh* T. sandgrubber
Maybe this is naive . . . but how about going in to you local Rangers with the dog, stating your concerns, and making it clear that you're going to do socialisation, training, etc. Invite them to come look at your containment. The Ranger is a human being and most of them like dogs, but are under a lot of pressure from all directions. Can't hurt to establish an understanding before any problems arise. melzawelza
Sandgrubber I would refute that most rangers like dogs - that hasn't been my experience. And I've found a lot of the ones that do like dogs still hate pits. I've seen a whole room cheer at the deaths of 18 supposed pits that had done nothing wrong apart from exist and be the wrong colour. Don't trust them. There are some great ones out there that are in it for the dogs, but there's even more that just didn't make it into the cops and wanted something else to make them feel powerful. WreckitWhippet
The only time I'd put my dog in the ranger firing line, would be if I lived in NSW and strongly believed that a dog I owned was not a Pit Bull and would pass the temperament test. NSW has an out , in the form of breed ID and the subsequent temp test, if found to be a restricted breed cross. Mind you, NSW has passed many a suspected dog as a cross breed, based on decent temperament at the time of breed ID. No way in hell would I be asking for a rangers opinion, where the council is the judge and jury.
Cosmolo
Yep- there is no out in Victoria. And one of my dogs would fail any temp test- no aggression but extreme fear. So i won't be willingly putting them in front of a ranger.
