Brachycephalic Specialist Vet In Brisbane

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any Brachycephalic specialist vets in Brisbane? Just want to get my new pug checked out, and to know where one is. I've read that vets without much experience with Brachy breeds can misdiagnose.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've owned Pugs all my life and I have never specifically sought out a "brachy specialist", just a good all round knowledgeable Vet. There are many such Vets around. Sorry I can't help specifically with Brisbane Vets though. I am sure soemone will recommend one.

Stephen Lindores at Albany Creek or Phil Thomas. the latter being the repo specialist at Brisbane Vet Specialists at Chermside but is also a very good general vet with a surgery at Mitchellton. There are also many here on DOL who speak very highly of the Kedron Vet Clinic.

A number of breeders of cats & dogs including my daughter speak very highly of John at the Salisbury Vet Surgery.

As Anne says I think any good vet would be able to assit with brachy breed problems.

Sorry can't help with a vet in your area but as for vets who are good with Brachy breeds I feel more comfortable knowing the vet is experienced with Brachy breeds especially for surgery..

One of my pug pup owners in Tassie called me when her boy was 1 yo - new vet wanted to do nasal surgery, he said "It's so bad that it's a wonder he can breath - very typical of the breed", I told her not to agree to anything and take him to a vet who deals with Brachy breeds - surprise - surprise. There was NOTHING wrong with the pug - nothing and he lives a very active life with a Stafford. On a different issue was the litter mate at 18 mths old in VIc who was told that her pug pup had HD so bad that they were looking at BOTH hips in need of desperate surgery with a bill around $5000. The pups left on a health insurance plan and they kept it going so money was not the problem. Again I told them to find a specialist and what do you know - again NOTHING wrong with the pup apart from some bruising from rough play.

I am glad that you are searching vets who are experienced with Brachy breeds and as always if they are talking about surgery always get another opinion.

I agree. I used to nurse for a vet who was an experienced brachy vet, the stories we would here when owners came to us for a second opinion No way would I trust my dogs with someone not experienced with them.
