Ive tried telling him that but he think they arent "pedigree" A GSD x Malamute isnt pedigree either Might be - anyone can write a pedigree and fill in who the parents are. All points to put to your brother, with a shepherd x alaskan he would get none. And I must say that some of the analogies in this thread are fantastic, ones for me to remember when people say they want to buy a cross also meant to say if he wants a german shepherd a bit unusual looking why doesn't he look at a White Shepherd and enquire through rescue about one? The fact that he wants this particular cross insinuates he has at least thought about what one of these crosses may turn out like and he thinks it will suits him. Makes no sense to me. And the shiloh shephard people are very focused on temperament. It appears similar to what traditional siamese breeders have done and why we now have a cat breed known as Thai's which are traditional (ie: old style) siamese. To me, whether you agree with the premise or not, that is very different to crossing 2 different breeds and ending up with a strong prey driven cross bred sold under a fancy name coming from a breeder that is unlikely to be temperament testing, let alone any other sort of testing, socialised puppies or doing anything else a responsible breeder would do. Anyone that is happy to have their puppies sitting in a glass fronted cabinet exposed to everything at 8 weeks isn't someone I would trust to buy a puppy off. And I can imagine these "rare breed" puppies are worth big dollars. Why not take him to Renbury and see if he will take on the same cross for a lot less money and stop a dog being PTS needlessly. That is if he insists on this cross I live in campbelltown and have also suggested this, i got a beautiful white shepherd cross staffy lol from there ( such a rare breed you know!!!! lmao) he is hell bent on this one pup....$1700........ $1700.....and i think plus health problems.... $17000!!!!!!!!!!!!! "hybrid theory" burkes back yard............ Sure but the big deal genetic diseases common to both breeds which cause the greatest concern are species specific not necessarily breed specific. If they're that different physically, he can also expect a massive different temperament wise as well. A GSD pup goes for around $1,200, and they come with a health guarantee. What about a sable GSD?
