I'm looking for contact details of who transports semen throughout Australia. Does anyone know of any companies that do this and any recommendations.

I have used GTE transport..they shipped semen for me from Cryogenes in Vic to the Rocky Ridge facility in NSW. They were prompt & amazingly VERY good value!

Can anyone give us an idea of price? Excluding stud fee, of bringing semen in from another state plus the cost of the AI (so vet fees and transport).

Haven't had to do one before, am considering it for next time.

Would be interested in knowing how much it varies too for distance travelled. I am in SA - keen to hear about cost to Adelaide from Perth or Sydney

(sorry if this is hijacking the thread)

The price depends on if you are wanting chilled or frozen semen transported.

Chilled semen would involve costs of vet fees to the collecting vet - approx $100 ( depending on the vet but I would say $100 as a minimum cost for a collection), the vet will pack the semen in a small esky box ( styrofoam) and it can be easily freighted using Australia Air Express or TOLL etc. Freight costs are based on weight, you would need to contact the freight company directly for a quote but I couldn't imagine it being anymore than $80. From memory I have paid around $50 from SA to QLD. It can also be delivered door to door or drop off and collect from the airport.

Frozen semen needs to be shipped in a tank, smaller version of a typical frozen semen storage tank. These tanks are quite a bit heavier at around 12-15kg. I have had tanks go back and forth between SA and QLD at a cost of around $350 using TOLL freight. The facility where the frozen semen is normally stored should be able to arrange your transport requirements.

There are also used to be a couple of companies that transport a lot by road,(sorry don't know the names) which may be an option if needing to move a frozen semen tank and it's not time critical.

Chilled semen obviously has a shorter lifespan for travel purposes so you want to get it from point A to point B as quickly as possible.

jr inoz - imsemination costs can be how long is a piece of string, depends on your vet really. Up here in QLD prices can vary between $600 to $1600 for a surgical insemination on a large breed.

I see you are in SA, contact Dr Chris Girling at Noah's Crossing Lewiston he will definitely be able to answer all of your questions.
