agsmith83
Gday All, In just over a week we are getting our baby Basset hound home. We have only 1 other pet, an Eclectus Parrot. The parrot is usually out free flying around our house when we are home. His big cage is in our living area. How do you let the puppy know the bird is not his dinner? Ofcourse if he looks like he will attack the bird and have a high hunting instinct we wont have them out together, but i hope they can get along. Is there some body language to look out for? Im assuming people have had similar experiences with new puppies with cats? here is a link to a vid that shows a basset and a parrot can get along! although just watching that makes me nervous! Thanks for the replies! ...Adam Edited August 15, 2011 by agsmith83
ravenau1
I would be very careful. A substance called Pastuerella (or something like that ) found in dog saliva can be fatal to birds I would contact an avian vet to get some advice! ETA: Yay for your puppy Basset puppies are SO cute! It's been a while since I had birds, but the Wattle Grove vets used to be great. Edited August 15, 2011 by ravenau1
