katski13
Hi everyone My 3 cavaliers are beginning to have trouble with their anal glands and it was suggested to me that I should try giving them more fibre in their diet. My vet suggested I give them Psyllium husks. Does anyone else give their dogs this and will it help their anal glands? Are their any negatives to giving it to them as well? Thanks
tlc
No negatives that I can tell, my girl had trouble and I was suggested the same thing. I was using 1/2 teaspoon in her nightly feed. But now I only use it for a few days if I see she needs it. I have 4 and only one has a problem with anal glands but over time and change of diet she hasn't had any problems for ages. oakway
You could always add more meaty bones to their diet.
cavNrott
My two Cavaliers have Psyllium husks every night in their food and have done for years. No negative consequences and anal glands are fine.
poodlefan
You could always add more meaty bones to their diet. Doesn't really help much I'm afraid. Dogs need bulk (provided in the wild by fur and feather) to move things along. Small hard bone poos don't do the job. Psyllium husk or pumpkin works. Exercise helps too.
