Gotta agree with blitz here. You'll hear a darn sight worse I'm sure, but once a Stafford owner always a Stafford owner in my opinion :)

Glad things have worked out for you now... one thing about being a first time Stafford owner is that it can be a HUGE learning curve.

I'm afraid as Stafford owners of a good number of years, some of us do get a bit irrate about our breed, and once you've delved more into the breed and become a heck of a lot more involved, I'm pretty sure you'll understand why.

Keep up the good work, AND asking questions and enjoy your new bub.

Hi everyone

I wish they had an emoticon for the middle finger, because that's what most of you would be getting :mad

Why? Because those of us in the breed for 35 years plus gave you advice that you didn't like? Why, Because those of us who ACTUALLY WORK in rescue saw some red flags and dared to broach that with you? Yep, just great, exactly what we need - another so called 'Staffy Lover' with a 'god' complex. And your comment about 'getting a life', farcical - I happen to work as a Corporate Trainer and have my own consultancy based in Parramatta - so indeed I do have a full life as well as working in rescue.

I guess that your 3 days owning a Stafford makes you an expert? Your last post is even more worrying than the first, your girl is 'performing' beautifully in true 'Staffy Style', how the hell do you know what 'Staffy Style' is? I guess when she fails to 'perform' beautifully you can then give me a call at Staffy Rescue as my offer will stand.

And 'Lashton', no one is hiding behind 'fake user' names, I offered to come and get the pup if it got too much, that is hardly hiding behind a fake name.

Finally, stop threatening to remove the post as you have twice now, remove it. Suck it up Princess - if you are going to own Staffords you better get accustomed to defending them!

Toughen up. You asked for advice and you got it. What on earth did you expect? Posts of sympathy instead? Hardly constructive...

...The best thing about the internet is that you can turn it of.

Good luck with your pup.

I actually think your last post was very rude

from the more friendly members of this website (few and far between).
It is quite obvious that many of you people on this site have nothing in your lives but your dogs. And for this I feel sorry for you.

A small handful of people disagreed with your methods and yet you imply it was most of the members on here. Your last post only paints you in a bad light, no one else.

I've been through the whole screaming Stafford in a crate thing so I felt your frustration. I even had to send one of mine off to Ready Set Go for 'boot camp crate training' or otherwise I was going to strangle her. They can be a very difficult breed, I love them but I will not ever have another.

Besides, the best one in the world is already on my couch :lollipop:

Hi everyone

Well, what a journey that original post has set me on! I have had numerous messages of personal support from the more friendly members of this website (few and far between). And once I have posted this comment I will be deleting my profile from this site as it seems to be nothing more than a place for fanatical dog owners to hide behind a username and fake profile picture and hurl abuse (err, "advice") at people who are trying to give their puppy the best start in life. You know who you are and you should be ashamed of yourselves. I hope you treat your animals better than you treat your fellow animal lovers. There are some people in this world who are dog enthusiasts (me) and those who are dog extremists. Get a life.

You'll all no doubt be please to hear that I didn't follow much of the "advice" some of you offered - including sending our puppy to a shelter because it would be better off there than with an owner like me (ouch)! Indi has settled in beautifully, is sleeping right through the night (from day three!) and is well on her way to being toilet trained. At 10 weeks she is already sitting on command, she is performing beautifully at puppy school and is socialising very well with other dogs and loves children, in true Staffy style.

For a while I regretted coming to this site for so-called help, being greeted by vicious, unhelpful and counter-productive accusations of animal cruelty! What a joke! I used to cry when I would hear my father treading on snails on the concrete outside my bedroom window and I am a regular volunteer at our local animal shelter. Cruel to animals is the exact antithesis of me.

It is quite obvious that many of you people on this site have nothing in your lives but your dogs. And for this I feel sorry for you. I have a happy and full life, and Indi has only added to this. Once my husband returned after those first few days - when I had barely slept, eaten or been out of the house - you'll probably recall that was when I came here to ask for HELP...

...well since then we have bonded with Indi more than I thought possible, and I can't believe how anyone could even suggest we give her up! The issues I was experiencing are far from unique for people who are new to the world of puppies, and it makes me sad for other members of this site who may have taken that action after being attacked by other forum members. You are only contributing the the issue of dog and puppy abandonment. I'm just glad I am a strong person who was able to rise above all of the nastiness and prove you all wrong.

I wish they had an emoticon for the middle finger, because that's what most of you would be getting :mad

Lashton, you said so yourself in your very first post that "You didn't want to get too bonded incase you had to give her to a new family. And this was what, 24hrs after you'd got her.

Have you ever visited the Urgent Rescue section here on DOL? Seen how many staffies and staffy x's end up on death row in the pounds? Seriously, take a look. :(

Maybe then you will see why some ppl here suggested you take her back to the breeder if you were unable to cope and already considering giving her away. We see too many beautiful dogs dying in pounds.

And there probably are people on here that have nothing in there lives besides their dogs. That is not sad. Sometimes a dog is all you need and I am sure those people's lives are just as full and happy as your own. You'll understand One day ;) once you've had a dog in your life long enough to appreciate the love and joy they provide, and that feeling of completness they can bring to your life.

Oh and I am glad to hear your little one is settling in.

Wishing you all the best for the future. :)

Couldn't agree more!! :)

I reckon laston's last post was rude. Thought it was just me. :)

You’re kidding me, I thought lashton was spot on, the any new person that comes to this forum is guaranteed abuse. The anonymity of a forum allows weak people a certain strength that they otherwise would not be able to express.

If I had listened to people on this forum before I got good advice from one member, I would have given up one of my two puppy female Staffy littermates. Who know's where she would have ended up, possibly abused, cold and scared rather than the warm loving home she shares with her sister now. I was given advice according to breeders "best practice" from people with no idea who I am or who my dogs are. I do understand why I was given this advice, but you need to think outside your own little worlds when giving advice. A classic example http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/129227-cant-wait/page__p__2469201__fromsearch__1#entry2469201 , scroll down to my post.

Forcing people away from this forum will not reduce the number of rescue dogs it will increase it. If you educate one person through thoughtful and good advice, this will be passed on to others, if you alienate them the number of people getting the message is exponentially reduced.

+1 especially the first two sentences.

That's crap Bigdaz and the breeders that are on this forum are in no way anonymous and what you hear from them, is exactly what you'd be told in person.

I dont think anyone was being rude to the OP they were all just concerned about the dog. And as for the comment about the middle finger it was not very classy. I agree people dont need to be made to feek unwelcome but after practical advice was given OP was rude first imo.

You all did well  Happy owner now & happy & good puppy  That is just what everyone wanted to hear

Life would be boring if we were all the same. Asking opinions is fine but there are going to be varying answers which one has to consider, research & use one's common sense about too. There are weird & extreme people who have odd ideas everywhere. Such is life :)
