Aztec Gold
We feed our kitten a chicken neck every second day, and just wondering if these would be good for our pup? If so, how many and how often? Can he eat them just plain thawed out? Or is frozen better? Thank you
Tilly
Depends on the size of the pup and how they eat. For my boy I froze two or three together and fed those ... otherwise he inhaled them. You want to encourage chewing rather then swallowing ... Edited August 7, 2011 by Tilly
Rebanne
my 6 week old greyhound pups, around 4 kilos in weight, got their first chicken necks today, went down very well
goldielover
AG: I give my furkids chicken necks a few times a week - sometimes just a few. Sometimes 6 or so and replace a meal (i feed twice a day). Just ensure that your puppy is chewing them, not inhaling as mentioned! For a youngish pup - i tend to give around 2 - 3 :D Edited August 7, 2011 by goldielover
HollyE
I feed our pup 2 a day but no more, same with our husky (20+ months) I wont feed any more then this because they enlarge twice the size once inside the dogs stomach due to the acids. Niques
I started my boy on a chicken wing (frozen or thawed) a day for lunch as soon as he came home. The shape forced him to actually chew it properly. I can't remember if he ever got chicken necks, but he could swallow two thirds of a turkey neck whole by about 14 weeks so I would think chicken necks have the potential to go down whole at a much earlier age - something to keep an eye out for
persephone
I wont feed any more then this because they enlarge twice the size once inside the dogs stomach due to the acids. I'm curious about this ? Can you explain further?
Aztec Gold
We gave him one, thawed, three bites and he swallowed it. Much unlike our cat who takes an hour to demolish one. Should we try frozen? Or something else?
ktig
I tried my pup with one yesterday, as advised by the vet, he's about 3 kgs, 9 wks old...he licked it a bit but had no idea - something that will improve with time do you think?
