Sooo i have two lovely little bitches put on hold for me to pick from when they are a bit older and im super excited i currently have an 18 month old desexed male who is very well socialised and a lovely friendly boy. I thought i would just ask a bit of a nuff nuff question regarding having a bitch living with a desexed male dog. what issues (if any) should i anticipate. Will i need to seperate them when the female is in season even though my male is desexed? Ive never had two dogs of different sex's before so would love peoples experience with this. I wasnt sure where to post this but thought you guys in the show forum section may have some experience with this I have a feeling i will be popping in here asking lots of questions big learning curve is coming on lol. Some will, some won't and until it happens you won't know if your boy is one that will or not :D What's probably best is to separate them if the dog shows a lot of interest and seems to be getting too friendly! Obviously nothing will come of it if they were to mate and since it's a perfectly natural act some may well say don't worry about it, but there's too many things that can go wrong to take the risk IMO. I found that it is the female who harasses my male when she is in season. I usually only have to separated them when she is at the peak of her season. The good thing is that if you do accidentally let them together and you get a tie, there will be no puppies! It was a good learning tool for me, as I now have an entire dog. My experience has taught me not to risk it when she is in season. As she can run off when they are tied and could damage the dog. Better safe then sorry! As i said, bit of a silly question as obviously i know that my boy wont be able to sire any puppies if they 'do the deed' but i just wasnt sure on the situation should it happen lol. Yes one of my bitches, when she is in season, harasses my neutered boy so much that I have to separate them... Poor buggar kept trying to mount her when she was no longer in season and she bit him!!! It's not a silly question at all. Many years ago I had a desexed male tie our bitch, shocked the s**t out of me at the time I an tell you I now have another entire girl and a desexed dog. Since his desexing, he hasn't bothered to even try mating any of them and is with them all the time, no problems at all. Gayle. Posted August 4, 2011 Share Posted August 4, 2011 My desexed dog was the best company ever for my entire bitch when she was in season. I had to quarantine her from our young entire male, and the desexed dog provided her with compaionship, otherwise she would have been very lonely. Sayreovi Posted August 4, 2011 Share Posted August 4, 2011 I was lucky and able to leave my desexed boy with my girl during her entire season, he had absoloutely no interest in her at all. I was actually kind of shocked and thought I would have to seperate them as he was desexed fairly late and had been around entire bitches before and got pretty excited.
