felmingham
Hi my 16 month of staffy is due for his vaccinations. I am quite anti most vaccinations due to their side affects but since we travel we need to get them done for him to stay at the kennels. I had the titre test done but unfortunately came back as follows: Canine Parvovirus Tite 1:5 Canine Distemper 1:20 The vet has said he will need booster vaccination which I understand is needed to keep the kennels happy. Anyway I want to do EVERYTHING possible to reduce the effects of the vaccination before and after. I have heard of the vaccination detox here http://www.holisticanimalmedicines.com/store/vaccine_detox_relief_from_past_toxins.html but wondering if anybody has any other recommendations. I also saw on another thread thuja is good for side affects, does anybody know where I can purchase this? Anyway thanks in advance for any info / advice provided. tlc
My oldest boy now 5 had a severe reaction to his final vaccine as a young puppy and we nearly lost him. as a result at vaccination time I'm always a nervous wreck. I just make sure the day they have the injection that I'm home and can keep an eye on them.

The low results may just mean that the dog has not been exposed to either virus. It may not necessarily mean that more vaccine is needed. If the dog was exposed to either virus the anti bodies would multiply rapidly and kill the virus as it should. If a test was done after the exposure one would expect it to be high. felmingham
Nixon (my staffy) did have a bad reaction he got quite bad Diarrhea and wasn't himself for a few days. He actually caught kennel cough in April this year even though he was vaccinated against it. I just don't get the point of forcing vaccinations when he will probably get it anyway. I am referring to kennel cough not parvo or other diseases) I would rather not vaccinate but can't see a way around with him needing to stay at the kennel over xmas break. Any suggestions? tlc
I'm with you! I'd prefer jot to vaccinate but am too scared not to, mine are always with other dogs at dog parks etc and id be scared they would pick something up. The reaction my boy had was his whole face, airways etc blew up and he couldn't breath. Thankfully we were 5 mins away from the vets after it happened sp we rushed right back and they gave him an injection to reduce the swelling, some kind of anti histamine I think. Very scary, so I have been wary ever since. Unless you can convince your boarding place to accept Titer tests then I don't see any other option? felmingham
Thanks everybody for the replies. I know I have to vaccinate just wanted some ideas on how to lessen the side affects. I will try to contact a holistic vet to see what they say .Cheers
Starkehre
Don't mean to frighten you, just make you aware that some of the side affects of vaccinates can take up to 3 months to manifest themselves, so it is not always something you can keep an eye on for a day or so. Immune mediated issues are some that come to mind. Not common, but not overly rare either. If you are vaccinating with the same vaccination is your pup was done with previously and you had no issues then, he would probably be fine again this time.
