Puppy Vacs

Now I'm concerned. What are the chances of a pup, at 10weeks who hasn't had their final vaccination and travels via plane, getting parvo or picking up anything else from other dogs?

Wadz imo and i am no expert if pup is taken to airport in crate, loaded on plane and taken straight home after landing it should be fine as pup is not touching the ground.

Dogs though can still get all these things even if they are vaccinated so i wouldnt stress too much.

Wadz, i'm with Mason2009 on this. There are always some risks no matter what you do with your puppy; we can't control everything. I would hazzard a guess that a puppy travelling via air would have more chance of picking up para influenza than parvovirus. To contract parvo, it is my understanding that the pup has to have come in contact with contaminated dirt or faeces because it's not an airborne virus. Conversely, para influenza is an airborne virus and highly contagious, hence the reason i chose to have Wilbur vaccinated to the 4 level (asked his breeder, who was happy to comply). The good news is that para influenza is not fatal.

hope this helps settle your concerns Wadz :)

  • 6 months later...

Abby had her final C5 Puppy vaccination on Thursday.

From reading this thread and another, my understanding is; its semi okay to take her out for a walk as long as its not a dog populated area and also the Parvo virus hasn't run rampant in the area?

I just want to get her out and about, because I know it will be a long walk the first time (Beagle = Sniffing EVERYTHING), BUT with her breed being a scent sniffer, should I be extra careful or just the extra eight days when the antibodies from the vac have fully kicked in.
