mirawee
A group of us from WA are looking at going over the Melbourne for the inaugral Lappy Champ show. We found some great dog friendly accommodation when we last went - but that was near the showgrounds. So any suggestions of where to stay at the other end of Melbourne? We will likely end up with 5-7 people and 8-9 dogs!

I am told they are very popular as there is a limited number so you would have to book early. Cheers

barney3633
Discovery Park at Carrum Downs is fantastic, not only dog friendly rooms but also a fenced area where you can exercise your dogs of lead.
mirawee
Discovery Park at Carrum Downs is fantastic, not only dog friendly rooms but also a fenced area where you can exercise your dogs of lead. There website says small dogs only Will need to send them an email and figure out if 15-20kg dogs are considered "small"
mirawee
So for those of us that are going to the Melbourne Royal for the first time this year... can you suggest somewhere? Not sure on your budget but we stayed here: http://www.stayz.com.au/13023 Easy walk to lots of food places and a supermarket - although cost seems to have gone up since we stayed. Interesting they now do an additional $40 charge for cleaning if you have dogs - we were told after our inspection that we left it cleaner than most people do who don't have dogs! And that was with 2 long hair dog, one of which was around 4 months old ;)
barney3633
The last time we stayed there[discovery motel] was sporting terrier weekend, lots of Am Staffs and Staffords, not exactly small dogs.
lappiemum
Hey Mirawee - great to hear there's a WA contingent coming over!! There are a few other breed club shows on that weekend (as well as the spitz show) so I would recommend that you get in as early as possible ;) Cranbourne, western port and even down near mornington pennisula might be a better bet than Melbourne - traffic shouldn't be too bad on the weekend, but if you can avoid the city crush its a good thing! ;)
