Southern River Obedience Club Classes Wa

Hi All

I have two pups. A 6 month old staffy x , and a 7 month old purebred english pointer who we've only just acquired from a breeder who originally planned on keeping her to show. Anyway, I'm keen to get them both involved in some sort of obedience class and after searching through all the threads here, have decided on southern river agility and obedience club.

What i was wanting to know is if they accept cross breeds as well?

And what type of activities i can expect? We've taken the staffyx to preschool and he did really well there. We know all the basic sit, down, stay etc...recall and heel probably needs a bit of work. The pointer on the other hand needs a little more work as she still hasn't even mastered sit. Do they cater for different levels of skills??

Any insight would be great.

Thanks for that Amy I did have a look on the website but all it says is "In our beginners classes, you and your dog will be taught the basics – teaching your dog to sit, drop, stay, walk on leash and to recall"..was just after a bit more information but i might give them a call. I guess it's good to start with a beginner class but i just don't want to be bored with it.

Do you know how long to classes run for? Or is it more like, once you're a member you pick and choose when to attend? :S

I'm a bit rusty on this but when I went the classes went for an hour, and there was a 7-8pm slot and 8-9pm slot, but don't quote me

Don't know how they do it over there, but my local obedience club has classes 1-4, 1 being the beginner's and 4 being the most advanced, ready to compete level. You don't attend each class for a set time, it's a drop in class where you pay $5 per hour, and when the dog has mastered the skills taught in the current class it graduates to the next level up.

I took Obi to the level 1 on Friday, his first proper obedience class ever, and he graduated that night, so we will be in class 2 this week:)

Maybe the club down there uses a similar system?

I am a member of SR but not ever been in a class .

There is no training during school holidays - so classes resume when school does and run for a term. I think there is usually a graduation night the last Monday of term which, if you pass, you move onto the next class.

They also run beginner agility classes on a MOnday night - but sorry not sure if there is a minimum age or an obedience requirment to attend.

The classes they hold are Beginners, Advanced Beginners, Intermediate, and Pre-Trialling.

Classes run during the school terms and like Ptolomy said, there is a graduation test at the end of each term to assess if you are ready to move up to the next level.

You pay your membership fee and then $3 lights money each week you attend.

Minimum age to attend obedience I believe is just once they have completed their puppy vacs, and no training experience necessary. If you do feel that you and your dog are past the Beginner stage and want to go straight to Advanced Beginners, you will probably need to be assessed. Yep, Ruski can help! I have no idea about the Monday night agility class except for the fact that it's termed Social Agility. Lots of dogs are on lead and it's more for fun than training to trial.
