Toohey
It's a bit of a worry Pheebs Seems no rhyme or reason. How long till you can have her back?
Pheebs
To be honest Toohey I don't know I had planned for October at the very latest (that's when our lease here ends)... but have only just started a new job this last week (only retail: I took what I could get out of sheer desperation ) which is in Chatswood. It's virtually impossible to find accomodation around this area at retail-wage price let alone accomodation that would accept pets. The whole situation is just so bloody frustrating. I feel i've let Kylie (f.c) down, and I just want everything to be right by everyone! Edited March 18, 2005 by Pheeble

Pheebs
The one thing I'm thinking is: what the hell is Tess doing playing with toys at 2am? As you know - Tess is just a liiiiittle quirky If I spent any more time trying to understand her i'd just about do my head in
Staff'n'Toller
Hehehehe I think she's just being a bugger Pheeble I have a high energy dog who sleeps on my bed and basically she was taught that nightime is for sleeping, she could very easily get into a routine of waking me at 3am to go to the toilet if she wanted, (she has in the past) but she is let out at 11pm then most mornings at 6am, so I know she doesn't need to go. OTOH if I sleep in - she'll sleep till 9 or 10am without needing to go at all!!! (Very cheeky) Clomicalm takes more than a couple of weeks to work, generally 4-6, if your foster carer wants to change the dose, she should call the Vet about it- cause it may never kick in if she's only getting half of what she should. If there's side effects she should talk to the Vet about that too. I think crate training to sleep near Kylie would be a good idea...sounds as though she's waking herself up and has way to much freedom at night- then of course after she's been playing she needs to toilet Try introducing the crate over a few weeks as a very positive experience...I'll try find some links for you. Cordelia
I think it's time to impliment some Tough Love! She has a crate. USE IT! Sorry, but Tess will get over any initial hissy fits in it. (not yelling at you pheebs just making that stand out). The Clomicalm will NOT work if the dosage rate is chopped and changed and her routine keeps changing to accomodate her (Tess that is). The use of Clomicalm is only going to be effective if a strict re-training programme is implimented otherwise it is pointless having her on the drug. I would be more inclined to get her onto a daily low dose of valium to calm her down gernerally as she is obviously stressed if her routine keeps changing, then valium is a better option as it is more effective in the short term. (Clomicalm takes up to a month to take any effect). Oh btw...... the 5.7 acre property across the road from me (4 bedroom house is nice) has been up for rent for almost 12mths. They'll take what they can get I reckon), if you can get 1 or 2 other people to move in with you, I'm sure they will allow a dog/s. (I know it's not close to Chatswood but the bus stop is literally at the driveway and goes straight to Parramatta).
sas
I can't comment on the wee problem but as for the carpet issue, this is what we have always done and no stains have occured after... If you get to a wee on the carpet fairly soon after it has happened get cold water and poor enough on the carpet...saturate it and then have 2 or 3 towels ready, immeditaley place them over the water and start jumping up and down until the area is dry to touch. (don't allow the water to sit there and soak through to the carpet underlay) get on it straight away otherwise you'll end up with 'water stains'. As another poster mentioned, use white vingegar (do not use any other type of vinegar) to mask the smell, but not too much otherwise you'll be smelling it for weeks. Never use household cleaners on wee, mixed together they will 'burn' the fibres of the carpets and you'll never get that patch looking the same as the rest of the carpet. There are also specialised pet stain removers you can purchase, I'm sure most forum users will have other wee stain removal tips as well.
Fin
Set her up to succeed. If keeping her downstairs stops the problem then do that for at least a few months until she is regular and settled again. I also recommend the crate, if for no other reason than her fosters peace of mind. Cleaning out a messy crate is not nearly as bad as scraping the sloppys off your carpet I'm really happy with crating my boy as it means that I can sleep in and know that he'll just hold it...
