Aztec Gold
We have bought a crate (42 inch for a boy golden retriever pup) and we will put it in the loungeroom next to a chair during the day. Now, do we take the same crate to the bedroom each night? Is that what people do? As we think we'd like him to sleep next to the bed. Or do they prefer to sleep in the lounge? Thanks heaps
Ons
no I think he would much prefer to sleep in the bedroom in his crate so i would take it into the bedroom each night provided that you are happy with that. you'll eventually get two crates, one you will leave in the loungeroom, one you will leave in the bedroom
gsdog2
There was a thread not so long ago on the same topic but I cant find it I agree with Ons - have the crate beside the bed so when the pup cries you can reach down and let it feel your fingers and know you're there (after being with a litter of puppies, nights can be very lonely) or your pup will let you know it's time for toilet. We have crate-trained our Goldie and GSD and both slept initially beside us in their crates with no hassle of crying through the night keeping everyone awake as was the way with the old method of locking them in the laundry (or similar) and let them cry all night
Ons
the first night I had Latte I slept her in a crate in the loungeroom, not a peek out of her, I think that she was exhausted from her big day the second night she cried all night non stop the third night I put her crate into the bedroom, not a peep out of her and I have kept the crate in there since. Now whilst she may not like going into her crate (she lies on my bed and hides her face with her paws thinking that I won't see her ) once she is in her crate she settles straight down and goes to sleep until morning - this is a very very active dog. Rainy
Whilst you have one crate moving it would be the best plan. I started this way, i eventualy bought a second "soft" crate for the lounge room this double's as the crate i take with me to training, and other places i might need it (much lighter for transport).
