stonecutter
Well, Ziva and I are entered for our first show - North of the Harbour at Erskine Park I know it's a HUGE show but it was the first one available (that still accepted entries) once we decided to give showing a whirl. I have my trolley arriving next week, show leads, brushes/combs, wonderwash for emergencies. I know I need to buy an armband holder thingy for my number when we get there. But what is the procedure of the particular day? I'm imagining 1. Unpack the car, stuff everything in the trolley and wheel it to the organising area 2. Pick up catalogue, figure out which ring I need to go to 3. Find some of the lappie ppl who are very nicely going to let me hang out with them 4. Keep an eye on the schedule/catalogue and in the mean time get Ziva ready. When it's closer to time head towards our ring and either let the steward know we're there or keep an ear out for being called 5. Have fun! :D (and avoid spending too much $$ at the stalls) So - is there anything else I missed? Or do is it recommended to get any paperwork before I unpack the car? I know I must also find time to scoff down one of the lamingtons I hear at EP are excellent :D I'm just going to be wearing one of my suits from work - do most people turn up in their showing clothes or casual gear and then change? I've had a good read through the showing thread as well. Thanks in advance everyone
Showpony
Hi SC, Depending what ring you ae in......get there the day before and stake a claim on a spot, with ropes and pegs...LOL......though I have noticed that spaces are usually available around most rings or within veiwing distance.......space is always at a premium around the Gundog and Terrier ring being in the middle of the complex. I am one of those that goes the day defore and puts up my gazebo frame.......when I arrive in the morning of the show I leave the dogs in the car, pack all my stuff in my trolley, set up mt gazebo, mat, chairs, crates etc, I get the dogs and take them for a walk, put them in the crates and trolley, get a cuppa tea, get the catalogue, being at the end of my Group I usually get changed mid morning. Then just sit or go and talk to people I know. My dogs are usually walked 2-3 times and definately during the luch break. Cheers PS. Though my dogs are on 3rd last breed in my Group......I am always there 30min to hour before the start of the show........I just can't relax if I get there late
poodlefan
SC: 3. Find some of the lappie ppl who are very nicely going to let me hang out with them I would do this first. It's far easier to figure out where you're setting up and sort that, then get your gear/dog sorted THEN go get your catalogue. It also means there's someone to keep an eye on your gear and dog at all times.
Havasneeze
Working dogs are usually in rings 1 or 3 but as the group is split, both rings will be used. When you get your numbers, you should find out from that which ring you will be in. This is a link for a map of the rings. Hope it helps... ring map
stonecutter
Oh thanks so much everyone! I entered us in 6-9 month puppy sweepstakes so we definitely need to be there early. No gazebo for us (yet) ;) Now just to wait for numbers to come in the mail - very excited :D
