Puppy Barking At Our Old Cat

Our 5 month old lab puppy very often barks at our old cat, and bounces around her all the time wanting to her to play. Our cat is well used to dogs and has 'trained' a couple in her day to be polite...(and to let her share their beds)... but Matilda just doesn't take any notice!

We remove her when she becomes boisterous and put her in a quiet spot for 'time out' and also try the distraction method as well which does work to a certain extent. Any other ideas?

You'll have to work on correcting the behaviour,

As soon as you can see she starts to get that exicited look in her eye when she sees the cat.. correct her by telling her no or sitting her down to calm her.

Do this everytime she gets excited until she understand the behaviour isnt wanted and it will stop.

The longer you leave it the worse it will get.

i would recommend teach the puppy "leave it" and then use that on the cat and time out every time she doesnt comply with "leave it" only bring in the time outs when she knows what leave it means, start small. also for time outs i would recommend you lock puppy in the bathroom or laundry for a min or 2 as this is more of a punishment then putting them where they can see you
