stonecutter
Hi all, I've searched the forums and read the pinned topics - but I can't seem to find an answer to this. We've just started show training classes for Ziva and I need to organise a show lead - but there seems to be so many kinds and a lot of overlap. We visited the breeder this morning and he said a choker lead is best, but after looking around online - I'm finding it difficult to determine the difference between a choker lead and a slip lead. This lead on ebay says slip and looks like what our breeder has: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PARA-CORD-SLIP-LEAD-suit-show-pet-dog-GREAT-COLOURS-/160590225587?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item2563ec60b3 But then looking on some show supplies websites, this sort is sometimes labelled as choker? And then the same ebay seller has this one as a choker http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PARA-CORD-CHOKER-STYLE-LEAD-suit-show-pet-dog-/160590226101?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item2563ec62b5 The only difference looks like a clip that secures the collar section in place Are they different? Or the same? Am I nuts?
oakway
Nah, your not nuts. Choker, (a totally incorrect name for it) usually consists of a metal chain with a lead attached. A slip is usually a long lead with a metal ring in the end and you thread the lead back through the ring. There are many leads out there and you may go through many before you find the one that suits your dog. Good Luck. We tried the slip at the breeders today and she seemed to be ok with that. Now to stop myself from spluring on too many pretty show leads
mohawklover
Always a problem, one show lead per show outfit. I remember the main reason for buying clothes was if it had a pocket for a brush. There are so many show leads, go on, spoil yourself. :D
stonecutter
Haha! I don't own any show outfits yet - but I figure I'll just wear my work suit (which only gets used once every few months - we dress casual usually!) at the beginning with my red cons to funk it up a little Of course, first I need to stop being a chicken and get the guts to enter

stonecutter
Don't wear shoes that stand out SC - they'll distract from your dog's gait. Thanks PF - I hadn't even thought of that! I have some black flats I can use (now I think about it, most of the shoes in my wardrobe are bright colours!)

You're lucky, you can wear just about any colour...except white! P.S. Also just an observation of mine but you'll often see 'stronger' dogs with chain leads (eg. Males, larger breeds) and slip leads on puppies or bitches.
