Separating Two Dogs

For the first time in many years we are down to 2 dogs. One is 10years old she has arthritis and has lost a lot of her eyesight, she is still quite active but can't do big walks anymore.

The other is 2 years old and requires more excercise and mental stimulation.

My problem is the younger one will not go for a walk without the older one,he sits and refuses to move. I am also finding he doesn't focus on me as much as I'd like at training and I'm sure it's because he wants to get back to her.

How do I fix this problem, it wasn't an issue when we were a multi dog home.

I'm no expert but can you put him in the car and take him somewhere unfamiliar? It might distract him from worrying about where she is. You can try some focus training once he is used to being away from her.

What about starting small? Do training with the young dog in sight of the older dog in a familiar environment (ie home, yard) with older dog inaccessible either behind gate, crate, or held by another person on lead.
