ruthless Posted June 10, 2011 Share Posted June 10, 2011 We've been joined by an 8-10mo dog. I don't know if I should be feeding him differently to the other three. I feed one meal in the middle of the day, is that enough for a dog of his age? Does he need a special puppy kibble or is he ok on the same one the others are on? Posted June 10, 2011 Share Posted June 10, 2011 My "teenage" dog (14 months old) gets two meals a day.....a raw chicken drum in the mornings, and 2 large cups of Black Hawk Holistic kibble in the evenings. Pretty Miss Emma Posted June 10, 2011 Share Posted June 10, 2011 Kenzie is still on 2 meals a day (this is more due to Em's feeding regime rather than her needing it at her age - 19mo). But at 10 months I definitely would have had her on 2 meals still but probably heading towards one, so not sure maybe it doesn't matter (8mo definitely I would have had her on 2 meals). As for puppy kibble ask everyone here and you'll get heaps of different answers!! Probably depends a little bit on breed size. What was he eating in the home he came from? I'd keep him on that for a little bit til he settles and and then move him on to what you're intending to feed him. OH reckons he should be on a puppy kibble though. I was concerned about feeding twice cause I didn't want to give the other lot reason to get their noses out of joint. Ons Posted June 11, 2011 Share Posted June 11, 2011 I'd be feeding twice a day too a good quality puppy food especially as he probably hasn't had the best start in life. In the mornings, I put down my pup's food bowl in the kitchen, give my 3 older dogs some biscuit bones and send them out of the kitchen whilst the pup finishes her breakfast. Normally pups are quite fast eaters so she often has finished before the others have. So I'd suggest giving your other dogs something to eat at the same time to avoid getting their nose out of joint. becks Posted June 11, 2011 Share Posted June 11, 2011 Mine just accept that a pup will be getting more meals then them. I would feed twice a day but then mine all do get 2 meals daily anyway. dasha Posted June 11, 2011 Share Posted June 11, 2011 Mine go on 1 feed a day at about 6 months old. As long as the quantitiy of food needed is ok to be eaten in one hit.
