arjay
Ok so my 13 week old rottweiler has the dandruff. I told my father not to bathe him too much as he needs his natural oils in his coat etc, but he has bathed him today using warm water bucket using a cloth. We use fido puppy shampoo. Now I noticed when I got home his coast has got more flakes than last time. Not sure if he rinsed him well enough too. My father has a tendency to wash him cause he dislikes the dog smell lol. I'm not due to see the vet in another 2-3 weeks. my father wont be washing for him a while now since he is shocked about the flakes getting slightly worse. I know im going to use different shampoos in future aloveen, oatmeal etc. Is there any remedies for flakes to go away.
Guest english.ivy
It could be diet related. What are you feeding him? I know my two dogs had dandruff from their previous diet and since switching what I feed they are both now dandruff free. You can also give you pup a wipe over with watered down natural dog shampoo instead of a full bath if he's a little smelly. I recommend a dog shampoo with no chemicals as that can dry out the pups coat. Can't remember the name of the one I've used as I don't really need to wash my two anymore. They don't smell, unless my Pointer has been rolling in things, as boys do!
arjay
His on beef mince and Nutro, Milk. Still using what breeder has giving him. I think its more with the bathing as his been good on his food.
poodlefan
If he wasnt rinsed in running water, I'd say there's every chance its shampoo that's made the flakes. Rinse him off in a bucket of warm water with just a dash of white vinegar. That may help. He really shouldn't smell. A daily brush and wipe with a damp chamois will help keep him in good nick. Guest english.ivy
Do this quick test and you'll know if it's just from the shampoo not being rinsed or he does have dry skin .. part his fur and scratch at his skin and if white specks appear from the skin then I'd say he has dandruff. Doesn't hurt them, I've done it to my two with no harm done. You think about how hard they scratch themselves when they have an itch!

noisymina
Your Dad might be happy to try this one. It had Kaisie's coat gleaming. No washing, but grooms them well and they smell lovely. http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/Veterinary-Formula-Anti-Allergen-Mousse-for-Dogs-177mL
Mason_Gibbs
You need to add more oils to his diet, evening primrose and fish oils. Use QV wash as a shampoo and then if that does nothing maybe change foods. My allergy dog had dandruff as a pup. You can also spray the dog with diluted QV oil and water after a bath.
