rajacadoo
Just wondering if there are any contraindications in getting a 12 month old Basenji bitch spayed, and to avoid needing a second anaesthetic, having her H/E xrays at the same time ???
persephone
Providing the vet who is speying her is experienced with doing/interpreting the correct joint Xrays - it should work... ?
cowanbree
I have done it with no issues but they were under for quite a long time so not sure if I would do it that way again. 2 short anaesthetics may be better than one long one.
rajacadoo
Thanks Pers, after I wrote it, I suddenly had the idea that the Vet needs to be proficient in doing the xrays , otherwise its a waste of time and money... Its info for a pup of mine, pet homed into a wonderful family, so need them to check the Vet is capable of doing the xrays... Cowanbree that is something to think about, didnt even cross my mind... Mmmmmm....
aussielover
Well i think one long one is better provided they are stable. The biggest risks of anaesthesia are induction and recovery. During induction most of the drugs we use cause decreased blood pressure and cardiac output and inhalation anaethesia initially causes respiratory depression ie. breath holding.
