Does the plastic work well (considering) ?

I just used a piece of white card to direct the flash upwards. It works, but it looks ridiculous

I can't afford to invest in a external flash at the moment, but I did see this that someone posted on here recently

http://photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/pop-up-flash-bounce/ and have been thinking of giving it a shot

I just bought a diffuser off ebay for $10 from a local place. I figured I can't go wrong for $10, and it will be easier than taping the card onto my camera. Might look a bit more normal too!

Today I have learnt that it is sooooooooooo much harder to get a decent shot on the 7d than it is on the 350d!

All of my shots on the green auto setting were rubbish!!!

The ones I took on manual - mainly AV mode have come out much much better.

Im a little worried. If OH picked up the camera he'll go straight to auto, and Im really struggling to get a ok shot out of it, even in natural light. None of them are focused, and all seem over exposed.

I dont think I've ever used the green box setting, I would've started in AV but I too was confused and disappointed with some of my first shots and even now it can be finnicky, maybe it's like a finely tuned race car.

You might have to look at all the custom functions and have a tweak of them.

Almost everyone says the 7D needs to be sharpened. You can change it in camera but it's probably in post processing that you might have to do more. I shoot RAW and use the Canon program DPP and find it pretty good, but then it's the only program I have.

Stick with it, it will get better, and when you get a good shot it will take your breath away. :) Go have a look at those tutorials I posted the link to, I found them very helpful.

Yeah Im not so worried about myself as I normally shoot manual, its just I gave the auto mode a shot, as I know thats what OH will use.

Its not even that they need to be sharpened, all the auto setting shots are completely out of focus.

I will have to get him to use a custom setting that Ill set up.

If it's just a focus issue it could be that hubby didn't give it enough time to focus and or he allowed it to focus on something other than the subject.

wagsalot, can you post some pics so we can have a look see?

I think I froze outside before mucking around with the camera. Its so cold out there!

Im hoping to get out on the weekend with the camera so will be able to have a go with some different subjects. I will try out the auto setting again then just for curiositys sake.

ETA - It was me taking the shots on auto - OH hasn't used it yet. Ive deleted all the crappy ones but will see if I can dig up a few from the recycle bin.

I have never used the green box mode - only AV TV and manual. I wonder what focus mode it is using - that could be the problem if it is searching for focus using all of the focus points it will pick up whatever is nearest.

I seem to keep going to AV, then TV if its a moving object.

I vary rarely go to M. I think I need to start though, so I get exactly what I want.

I wrote myself out a few notes on a piece of paper tonight to stick in my camera bag. I keep forgetting how to get to things - like going from One shot to AI Servo today - I always turn the wrong dial and wonder why nothings happening. So many buttons!

Last months challenge was movement and this is what the 7D is especially good for. Since we haven't got a new challenge why not practice and post some shots up there.

Yes all the dials and options are confusing and I still haven't mastered the art of quickly changing them. It certainly doesn't come as 2nd nature to me. There is the Q button though that might help you to change setting a bit quicker.
