Immune System

Just wondering if there is a (cheap :o ) way to build dogs immune system?

Kaos seems to have picked up Canine cough, this is the 4th time she has had it (first 3 times she was vaccinated and got it, this time she hasnt been vaccinated... and got it!)

I know how to treat it and to keep her warm and home till it passes, I have no other dogs near my home but Atlas (live in Units and i am the only one who has the OK to have dogs) so not worried about it getting around. But she is 6 this year and I really dont want her getting things like this as she gets older :(

She is on a good diet, bones and good dry food and vegies and fruit when I can get them for her, but is there something else I can add to her diet?

Thanks!

With kennel cough there are different varieties - one that you can vaccinate against and one you can't!

Unfortunately when you are talking about the immune system, it gets a bit complicated.

Perhaps consider supplementing with vitamins & minerals if you think your dogs diet is inadequate.

Blackmores have just put out a new multi vitamin for dogs.

It is a very pallatable chew which dogs find quite tasty.

I put one of mine on it because she is a very picky eater and I have definitely noticed some improvement.

I know Big Dog, do an immune booster called Booster.

There is not really much you can do to boost the immunity of a dog. Good food, and healthy lifestyle is all there is.

I tried the de Bairacli levy "Natural Rearing" diet with the extra herbs etc to try to boost immunity with little result. The dog wasn't picking everything up though, he just had a immune system weakness for one virus, so you might find improvements.

Freedom Press have a book out called "The Colostrum Miracle" - the anti-aging super food that can boost immunity - you may want to have a read of that.

forgot to add - C O'Driscoll's - "Shock to the system" - the truth about vaccination, pet food and how to keep your dog healthy..

I have used a product called Supa Immuno from Holistic Animal Medicines with great success after one of our dogs got very very sick and spent a week in at the Vets on a drip. He lost a lot of weight during that time. Shortly after his release and when he ended his antibiotics for the sickness we treated him with the Supo Immuno for 60 days and he hasn't looked back. :-))

I use this product and others of theirs and have been very very happy with them.

I use a lot of their products now with success.

Edited to add, there are a number of different natural things you can give your dog to help boost the Immune System, one that comes to mind is Purple Carrot Juice. Great for humans as well!!!!!!!!
