Sue
Hi all. Finally one of my dogs has deemed to lower herself to motherhood. She is due around the middle of June. I don't have any children and live a very quiet life and while none of my previous puppies seem to have noise or fear issues I wonder if I should be doing more to socialise them with sounds they might hear in a "normal" household? Has anyone tried the audio CDs that are being produced to provide desensitization to babies, loud noises, etc and were they any good? Cheers
Bisart Dobes
I always have a radio / TV in our whelping / puppy room and the radio is on from day one - low calm music helps mum relax and create a nice peaceful den / nursery atmosphere. Once the puppies ears are open I change stations to talkback / different music and once eyes are open I have the TV / DVD on - we play movies with variety of noises but I always change it back to nice calm music for the night shift . So buy a small radio / dvd player and put a spare tv in the room - gives you something to do too if you are like me and spend the first 24 /7 sleeping next to the whelping box. Good luck with your bubbas.
AdoubleJ
Yes - We have used it with most of our litters and find it very useful, except with one of our girl who barks the place down when she hears the other barking dogs on it. :D
tommygirl
Havent used the audio CD's, but I just have a radio/tv going and then as they get a bit older move the whelping box out into a busier area so we are walking past, banging around in the kitchen etc. I am the same, have no children and its just my partner and I. I havent seen any sign that any of them are skitty with loud noises etc..and I have stayed in contact with almost all puppy homes. Enjoy babies! becks
I've used both and find the TV on has just as good an effect as the sound CDs. I also do things like drop items nearby to get them used to sudden noises, you can start in the next room and then get closer to the puppy pen.
