pometiquette Posted May 25, 2011 Share Posted May 25, 2011 I have the most lovely girl, with fantastic lines and colours, but when she comes on heat she just doesn't want anything to do with the Male. I have tried a couple of different males but just no luck. Without doing artificial insemination, does anyone have any ideas that might help? Is she registered on the main register and do you hold a prefix so the puppies may be registered. Who owns the stud dog you, or are you traveling to the dog. Maybe a stud master needs to be contacted. Have you had her prog tested to find out where she is in her season. Her breed would also help as some breeds can differ in their behaviour and sometimes need a different approach. Some bitches may mate on their 3rd day and others at over 20 days. We actually bred her using one of our bitches and a stud that was brought in so we would be able to breed her to our main stud. We have her mother still as well as a sister from a litter a year later. Both have had litters. She is a pomeranian, and we have had her with our main stud the whole time the first 3 times she was on heat, and the last time with another stud dog that was here for several days. Sorry I only included the part about her having great colours and fantastic lines to let people know why I am so wanting to breed her. No one on a forum would know why she won't stand except to guess that hormones/timing is wrong. This may be the case or not. The bitch needs checking internally as well. One of mine could not mate because she had a stricture. Not a breed known for strictures especially but it can occur with any dog. Another would not mate at home & actually snap at the males but in a different home she was fine & willing, even on the same day. You could try taking them both to someone elses home. May work if its a dominance issue, who knows. Could be many reasons. Post & ask for recommendations of a good reproduction vet that you can get to. Hi Christina, Will check with our vet, they are very good in that area and I am seeing them tomorrow, but I think you have a great idea, it could be a dominance issue, she does snap at them. Had to take her off the premises every time & then no trouble. Hope it turns out to be something simple as that was. Took a bit of thinking to figure it out though. Boys going mad & her flagging to the side when I ran my hand down her back were good indications. Total lack of interest on both sides needs the vet. mini girl Posted May 28, 2011 Share Posted May 28, 2011 My computer is behaving again - I took my boy who does not live with us for his first mating to Fur Kids (vets) in Greenbank Brisbane - wanted him to mate with my experienced girl but no luck after over 4 hours - so decided to use Fur Kids for help - I was totally amazed the way they handled the natural mating - two lovely ladies that had them tied in no time flat - I used them on the recommendation of another breeder friend - it was well worth the $60 charge - now just waiting to see if all is well and we get puppies. It took all the stress out of it and would totally recommend them if its near where you live - we had to drive nearly an hour from home but was only 20 minutes from where my boy lives - but would do the drive again without a moments hesitation.
