persephone
LINK FUNDING has been given to help control dogs in remote NT communities. Nearly $3 million has come from mining royalties and is going toward education and desexing programs in West and East Arnhem Shires, Macdonnell Shire, and on the Tiwi Islands. The Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities (AMRRIC) said the money would be used to employ 10 Aboriginal people in the three mainland shires and to train nine employees of the Tiwi Islands Shire Council. The money comes after dog attacks in Maningrida, where a teacher was mauled by three dogs and residents said they had had enough of problem hounds.
