Can anyone recommend a good puppy school in Sydney? The one I wanted to go to will only take a pup after 12 weeks (after 2nd vaccination) and I'm worried this will be too late?

Or is this a pretty standard rule?

I live inner city :)

Thanks guys, appreciate it :)

We took our pup from 12 weeks (2nd vacc) and she's been doing really well.

We are in the west and travel to Hills Training and Kennel Club - Monday nights Castle Hill Showgrounds at 7pm (first week get there 6:30pm)

I like the fact that it's not just puppy school - that once puppy reaches 20wks, you can join the all-age obedience class.

We always get there 20-30 min earlier as well to allow Ziva to socialise. We have some dogs in our area that she sees on weekends, but Monday nights she knows she gets to meet all sorts of dogs.

At first she was a bit skittish and barky - but now she takes it in her stride (after 8 wks) - imagine a 3.5kg puppy going up and nicely greeting a 30kg german sheppherd, BCs, greyhounds, oodles, staffies etc. This socialisation has improved her temperament - more so I believe than if she just met puppies at a puppy-only school (where she felt like the big dominant girl).

ETA - I think CW EW went somewhere around Sydney Olympic Park - but I know we get people from the inner west (e.g. Gladesville etc) coming to Castle Hill.

We live in Waterloo (near Surry Hills) and Castle Hill is way too far for me, but I do like the sound of that.

There is a dog club at Centennial Park I believe that I will take pup to when he's a bit older, and they have lots of different aged dogs that go there.

But for the puppy part I really need to stick to somewhere local.

Glad to hear you didn't go till 12 weeks and your pooch was okay - I guess I'll keep hunting around though.

I did my puppy pre school through Gladesville Vet :)

But Castle Hill has a really good rep :) Unfortunately my schedule doesn't fit in with Castle Hill schedule, that I can't go there :(

We went to puppy school at Struggletown vets at Randwick (Barker St). The teacher was very good and i thought it was a good mix of training, play and theory. We went after Jager's second vacc and all the pups were about the same age so it was good.

Teacher was very patient and really explained things well, worked well with the dogs and was extremely friendly.

I can recommend the puppy school at VetMed in Frenchmans Rd., Randwick.

Tom, who takes the class, is a professional trainer and not just one of the vet nurses.

It is a 4 week course and there is one starting in about 2 weeks.

I will be taking my new puppy. I also took her mother there when she was a puppy and was very happy with the course.

Mollipop this place sounds perfect as we're looking for a good vet too and Randwick is very convenient for us.

I'll give them a call tomorrow - who knows, we might end up in the same puppy class! :D
