Pretty Miss Emma Posted May 21, 2011 Share Posted May 21, 2011 Hi all, This is just generally out of curiousity as Em's insulin dose is increasing at the moment so obviously we go through more of it quickly! If you have a diabetic dog (or if you know due to being in industry), what sort of insulin do you use? And how much does it cost ou for a 10ml vial? As I said just curious. I have heard that human insulin can be cheaper than that made for dogs, but there can also be some issues in terms of it's effectiveness. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Staranais Posted May 22, 2011 Share Posted May 22, 2011 Human intermediate acting insulin is pretty similar to Caninsulin, although like all insulin dosing can take some fiddling to get the dose & timing right. But over here at least, there are some legal issues surrounding prescribing a human medicine where there is a canine equivalent available, even if the human version is much cheaper.
