Bundyburger
Thommo, sounds similar to what our kelpie had. We think it originally started from a bite.. He was on antibiotics, steroids and anti inflamatories. After about a week or so, there was no improvement, so we booked him straight in to have it removed. The steroids did however stop the size increasing further. His thankfully wasn't quite that large, but it turned out to be a harmless 'button" tumour and it's not unusual for it to appear as quickly as it did in our case. As it was on his leg, and it happened so quickly, we didn't want to leave it.. it was a case of remove first, deal with what it is later. I hope it turns out to be something simple like this for your boy.
