I was wondering if anyone knows if it is normal for a desexed male Labrador to want to hump, he is trying to hump our female desexed german shepherd a lot lately, he was desexed at around 9 months of age,I didn't think that they would get the urge once desexed.

This could be a dominance behaviour rather than having an 'urge'.

Boonie still tries it and he was desexed at 6mths - i know of plenty that do.

Dominance is one reason - but I still think they get the urge you know.

I suspect it still feels good. It's got not a lot to do with wanting to procreate.

My girls do it to each other.

Can be dominance. Try distractions to stop the humping.

Thank you for your reply's to Mrs Rusty Bucket and Got nuthin our female poodles used to do it to one another as well but they weren't desexed.

We stop him as soon as he tries it on

Remember not to rule out stress, humping is often stress to, so think about where and when he does it.

what have they done before he humps on her? playing, maybe not gone for a walk for a while or too much walking, do they share toys and mabye he would like to have them for himself? etc.

so do mine, at times it looks like a congo line.

With out a doubt a dominance thing around here.
