sheena
I applied Advantix to my BC about a week ago, before we left home for a little trip. I think she might have picked up some fleas as she is scratching in those "fleay" type places & I can't find any ticks on her....I thought I saw a little black thing running through her hair. I am not surprised that the Advantix hasn't worked. Can I give her Comfortis as a precaution in case the Advantix hasn't worked It is only about 10 days since I stopped using Proban . I'd give your vet a buzz to find the answer for this, I'm not sure I'd take advise from anyone without a vet degree on this one just in case. Hope the itchys stop soon
luvsdogs
I use Revolution on my cat & she gets fleas before the month is up, sometimes in 2 weeks. The vet told me to use Rev & Frontline Plus on alternate fortnights. With Advantix I have used a Preventic tick collar. I asked if Proban & Advantage could be used together & was told no. I'd probably wait a week & then re-do with either Advantix or Advantage. Why did you stop using Proban? ETA to be safe ask your vet. Everythings Shiny
Sheena - It should be safe but I'd personally look at capstar or something to kill the adults and then do the comfortis when it was next due.
Rysup
Dont forget the fleas will still hop on with these products, they should then die. So seeing a flea doesnt mean there is a colony moving in.

I stopped using the Proban as I have been told that prolonged use causes organ failure, so I only use it during the bad tick season, which up my way is usually Nov to March, but this year I went a couple of months longer. The Proban does not repel the ticks or fleas, it only kills them after they have attached & had a feed....so dog still itches. The other months of the year I use Advantix but feel that maybe ticks & fleas are building a resistance to it & I thought Comfortis might be more suitable for fleas because it doesn't wash off. My vet told me that Proban & Advantix could be used together.
aussielover
Yes I use advantix 2 weekly (for the ticks) and comfortis monthly. My dog has atopy and is probably also flea allergic (though she has never had fleas), so needs really strict flea control. You really need to treat the environment as well, if you are not already doing so- so the dogs bedding, under furniture etc. Flea bombing doesn't really get under furniture. Lhok
The tick season in our area is from Oct to April or anytime it rains which is a lot of the time. The vets where I used to volunteer at were told that Proban can cause some respiratory problems while under General Anesthetic and that we should ask if the dog is currently taking Proban before surgery. Not sure about the prolonged use effecting organs though. Our Flea treatment begins with Capstar, then fido's rinse then after 3 days I put on frontline due to my dog having issues with comfortis We also treat the whole house with flea spray and wash the bedding in hot water and put some fido's in the wash with it. Not sure if this is helpful or not but fleas are annoying little things hope you get it sorted quick --Lhok
