cannibalgoldfish
Well, another one down and once again I enjoyed seeing lovely dogs and unusual breeds I dont often see. This year my highlights were lots of British bulldogs, A bunch of Chows, a gorgeous big fluffy brindle Afghan and a pair of Griffon Bruxellois. I'm pretty sure I saw a Field Spaniel as well. I saw a dog that may have been a Swedish Vallhund but I didn't get close enough to check. Oh, and an Irish and an English Setter. None of these breeds are very common around my area so it was great to see them. What unusual or interesting breeds did everyone else spot? :D
Dju
If you went to the Brisbane one, the Swedish Vallhund you may have seen may have been mine since Hugo was the only one of his kind there I saw Chows, they were so fluffy omg Also saw a Finnish Lapphund, she was the only one there too. And a Kangal. Kangals are enormous! Oh yeah, and there was also a Shiba Inu there. :D They're much smaller than I thought they'd be. mita
Brisbane ABC TV News put a 'scattering' of shots taken at the MPW here. First quick 'flash' was of 3 happy small dogs in a group....& they looked like Tibbies! Later we had friends phoning up to tell us they'd seen them on the News. Everyone was breed-spotting on the television! I think these events are great places to highlight the various breeds, especially the less common ones. Don't forget the Irish Setters, Jap Spitz, someone said there was a Flat Coat Retriever but I never saw one And I saw a Manchester Terrier later that day at the beach, I was so impressed I recognised her breed I've only seen the photos of Amypie's Trixie in her siggy lol
Kirty
I saw lots of Frenchies, BTs and Bulldogs. I also saw two Leonbergers, a GORGEOUS Afghan, a Griffon Bruxellois, a Lagotto, two of the biggest Danes I've ever seen and lots of gorgeous Greyhounds. I have to admit though that I found it very ironic that the vast majority of dogs at an event to wipe out puppy farms were crossbreeds and mostly oodles. Burkes
Yep, sadly all I can remember of the day was oodle after oodle after oodle.
mackiemad
kirty, i saw a lot of oodles too, and many 'staffy x's'! i also saw the two huge danes, but topped them with two irish wolfhounds - not something you see everyday! and i think i saw a briard as well - but i can't be sure as i haven't seen one before... and the fluffy afghan was a delight! but it isn't to stop puppy farms, it is just a general fundraiser for the rspca, so most of the money probably goes to paying the bills and equipment, general boring stuff like that... Maddy
Yep, sadly all I can remember of the day was oodle after oodle after oodle. The last MPW I attended actually had people representing the local oodle farm there, promoting their "products" It made no sense to me that the RSPCA would allow that. Haha yep, they sure know how to flog their oodles don't they. Maybe registered breeders should branch out into television advertising to keep up. poochmad
In Canberra, we walked our two Field Spaniels with two giant Great Danes. What I was amazed at, were the number of people who just came up and started patting the dogs, often without asking...and when we were walking along, people would often pat the dogs on the head as we went past. Uncommon breeds I saw were: a lovely Bearded Collie, some Old English Sheepdogs, a gorgeous Bloodhound puppy, a stunning Malamute pup, an English mastiff pup...with a long haired English Mastiff! I never knew they existed. The lady said that they are called fluffy's and are culled by breeders if they turn up, which is a shame as the breed with a coat is even more stunning without. Saw lots of lab x poodles, a couple of standard poodles (black and white), Japenese Spitz, Samoyeds, lots of Staffy's (two stood out from the crowd, a gorgeous black and white and a tan) GSDs, Goldies, Labs, gorgeous Cavs (all colours), Dachies, Basset Hounds, Westies, Beagles, English Cockers (which people thought our dogs were), lots of breeds! newfsie
We took our three newfs and one Golden cross Border.......Our dogs were loved and loved some more by nearly every kid. A very happy social day and it was fun. We did a Obedience Demo, which went well. And I did some carting with Annabelle, she loves to show off carting. I love going to these social days and the dogs enjoy them too.
