pixie_meg
I saw these terms in another show thread. what do they mean exactly? Pacing mouth your dog
Sandra777
Pacing is when both legs on the same side (of the dog ) move forward in unison, trotting is when diagonally opposite legs move forward together. Suggest you google for pics if that makes no sense Mouthing your dog is showing the judge your dog's bite instead of the judge parting the dog's lips and looking for themselves. Merrirose
Pacing is a 2 beat gait where the legs on the same side of the body move together rather than he diagonal legs moving together in a trot. I presume mouth your dog means show the judge your dogs teeth.
D & D
I saw these terms in another show thread. what do they mean exactly? Pacing mouth your dog Pacing is when both front and rear left legs move forward together, the front and rear right legs, and so on. Hope that makes sense? Basically, it's the wrong movement. Look at show pics of a dog on the move, front and rear legs on each side move opposite to each other. Mouthing your dog is when the judge (for wahtever reason) can't or won't handle your dog's mouth. You do it for them to show their bite. ETA: snap to the others, I type slow Edited May 12, 2011 by itsmeg
SkySoaringMagpie
If it helps, when I was a lot newer I was showing to an English judge and she looked at me and said "teeth". I stood there baffled and she said "Teeth!" a bit impatiently. "TEETH!!". At that point I had the brain to say "sorry, I'm a bit new to this" and she softened up and said "Show me her teeth"

Shaar
The term pacing comes from horses. Also known as harness racing. The horses move much smoother moving the legs on each side at the same time which keeps the sulkie steadier.
mr.mister
With the mouthing, do you just part the lips, or open the mouth for them?
Dogsfevr
With the mouthing, do you just part the lips, or open the mouth for them? Depends on the breed & whether full dentition is required. GSD ,Dobes,Rotts etc the handler would show full by choice
Shaar
A judge asking you to mouth your own dog is pretty rare though, it's mostly international judges that ask for it.

The Spotted Devil
I have always mouthed my own dog (not that I have shown much). The international judges do seem to appreciate it more. The only time I was asked for it was when Halo was teething and I warned the judge her mouth was pretty sore. So the judge asked me to mouth her myself. PomsNZ
Pacing- what you do when you know a dog who has beaten you is entered.... Mouth your dog- often done when dog has something in its coat and you cant get it out by brushing. (usually chewing gum, but not limited to lollipop remnants, sticky tape and staples_
