Can I Use 2 Crates Instead Of 1?

We plan to crate train our pup when he comes home in a few weeks, but we also might be moving to a split-level apartment, so here is my question:

Can I have 1 crate downstairs in our bedroom where pup will sleep at night, and another crate upstairs in the living room/study where the pup will go during the day? Or do they get confused having 2 different crates?

The main reason I ask this is because taking a crate up and down the stairs seems like a lot of trouble!

He will learn to use both just as happily very quickly.

my pup has one downstairs under the house and one in my room and no problems, he loves his crates.

But be careful with him on stairs they are not good for growing puppies, so I would be carrying him up and down for a while and when you do teach him to use them make sure he never runs up and down, but is always walking calmly on them.

Excellent! That's a huge relief :D

I will definitely be careful with him on the stairs - and he won't be having free run of the apartment for a while anyway. When he does, we will probably just get a baby gate.

Not a bad idea Fuzzy. I think I will alternate, so that he does get used to being on his own.

I do. Wire crates in the kitchen and loungeroom, soft crate in the bedroom and for travelling. No problems at all.

Another option (if you don't want to double up) is to use a playpen downstairs and crate upstairs.
