FHRP
My 13 year old boy had a suprelorin implant nearly 12 months ago. At my last vet visit with him a month or so ago the vet said he may not ever need another injection, that at his age he may not go back to producing testoterone? Has anyone had an older dog implanted with suprelorin that lasted a lot longer than the 12 months? The vet said to watch for the return of normal testicle size (they shrunk heaps) to gauge when he would need it again. I must admit when I had the implant done 12 months ago I didn't expect him to see out the life of it so I didn't opt for surgical castration. He's in great form now but I still think we'll opt for another implant if needed.

While they do tend to last longer than 12 months he has always started producing testosterone again. Even at age 14 I'm looking at having to have him implanted again. My vet said the same as yours, that it would be unlikely he would produce testosterone again (I've heard this a couple of times actually) but my boy clearly isn't listening! sas
My Dane had 2 x 6 monthly ones and they went for longer than 6 months, from what I gather it's a very individual thing.

hilaryo
He had the implant in March 2008 when he was 4 1/2 years. It wore off around Feb last year when he was nearly 6 1/2.
