BMAK
people travel to get dogs everyday and sometimes fly them to there new homes if too far, if you and the dogs are healthy enough to travel for a long time with stops i wouldn't think you are crazy. You must want and look commited to get this dog/pup in my perpective. the furthest i have had to drive is 4 in total Edited May 5, 2011 by BMAK
Aziah
No limit if I saw something I liked and it was available then I'd be there!
Red Fox
;) 5 hours is nothing. I'll be travelling close to that just to meet a breeder this year and I still don't know if I will be getting a pup from her. Plenty of people travel interstate or even overseas to find the right dog

I am traveling 5 hours to go get a dog and most ppl Ive told think I'm nuts. ;) These would be the "its just a dog" kind of people. For many of us they are way more than that.. pets, companions, a hobby, a passion. Those telling you you're nuts have a completely different value set, that's all. BC Crazy
If I found a puppy that I liked, bloodlines I'd been looking e.t.c e.t.c I would travel anywhere in O.Z. / N..Z. Tas, even O.S. maybe If need be. Your not just buying a handbag or something material. Anyone that has thought you were mad obviously hasn't met me ;) . And aren't passionate about the same things you are. Not dog people. IMO they don't know what their missing. My life would not be complete without my furry kids. The joy they bring cannot be summed up by an amount of travel or how much they cost. B-Q
Doesn't really bother me, anywhere on the mainland I guess, outside that I might just have it sent to me. It might be a pain for a couple of days but you'll have the dog for 10 years+

I keep telling my bf that, hes never had a dog before. and the ppl that have told me its too far most of them have or have had dogs, spose they are just not willing to travel that far when they can get one closer to home. but i agree for the right dog its worth the trip. dancinbcs
Lots of regular showies travel 5 hours or more each way just to go to dog shows, not to mention yearly visits to interstate Royal shows, so driving that far to pick up a puppy is considered "normal". What I don't understand are the people that expect the right dog to turn up on their doorstep. I once had a puppy buyer enquire at Sydney Royal and I told them that there were puppies available in Canberra (3 hours away). They said no thanks they would wait for a litter to be born in their suburb. No doubt they are still waiting about 10 years later because their are no breeders of our breed in their suburb. ;)
