Rhodesian Ridgeback Fur

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My Rhodesian Ridgeback was light wheaten when we brought him home at 8 weeks old and became slightly darker until about 4 months old. He is now 5 months old and looks "speckled" "ticked" "flecked" with a mixture of both light and dark wheaten. IE he has 2 dark hairs (caramel) to 1 light (almost blonde).

His coat is lovely and shiny, his skin is also healthy.

I am wondering if he will grow out of this? Is this just puppy fur changing to 'adult' fur? Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance

Looks normal to me and I would suggest this is your pup's colouring. The colouring does change from summer to winter coat in that it will be lighter for one and darker for another

Is exactly the same as my besties 6month old RR. Zuka is a purebred, bred by our local vet so I presume it's perfectly normal. Have run into a couple of zuka's brothers n sisters at the vets and they were the same!

The coat colour is normal. :cheer:

This is the coat colour from the ANKC R/R standard

Light wheaten to red wheaten. A little white on the chest and toes is permissible, but excessive white hairs here, on belly or above toes is undesirable. A dark muzzle and ears permissible. Excessive black hairs throughout the coat are highly undesirable.
