Lando's Mum
Hey we showed up at 10:30 and didn't see you at all, must of just missed you by the sound of it. we went straight to the big dog park and played with Griff. Lando has also made a friend in Holly, a beautiful black and white border collie. There did seem to be some unpleasant fluffy owners in the small park which is why we went into the big one. At one point a border collie jumped the fence and went into the little dog park and all the owners started picking up their fluff balls. Was a bit ridiculous. Happy to go to Casey. Staffyluv
Id love to join you all if you go walking with leads. :) I am happy to do on lead walks with Ziggy - he needs that socialisation thing and he does love to be around other dogs (he just gets overly excited to begin with, so on lead would be good for him).. Lando's Mum
Yeah well Lando is pretty terrible on lead and god knows I need a good walk or 50 So we're up for it. Where is convenient for everyone?
koalathebear
We'll be at Casey Dog Park (off Yeend Avenue, near Springbank Rise) at 10 am on Sunday in case anyone wants to play. Much as Yarralumla is a nice dog park, we're not crazy about some of the humans there  Will give a pass on the lead walking together. My two are walked separately because they pull like freight trains if there is more than one dog and the one time we thought we'd go for a soothing walk around the lake in Gungahlin with a group of others, we ended up being exhausted, frustrated and embarrassed but our huffing dogs
Lando's Mum
We'll be there on Sunday. Lando is pretty bad on lead, she has such a great recall we never really bother put a lead on her. But I probably should do some more on lead walks.

lilmisssascha83
We had a fantastic training session today with the trainer... We can go to the park but only when it is us for now as she wants me to practice the techniques she gave me to get his recall back and it was great today - even with one of her dogs here distracting him... Hopefully we will be back soon to play. Staffyluv, what techniques did the trainer give you for his recall?
Akayla
Sorry got very busy lately. Will keep an eye out for any walks organised here :)

Basically I keep treats on me all the time and whenever I call him he is rewarded. We also get my son involved and we call him and treat him between us.. So he always thinks pine is getting something when he is called to come.. It started with me just calling him over and as I treated him, I said come.. Then when he was outside, I would call him with Ziggy come and herons like a loon to get to me with the treat... His distraction is to high at the dog park, so we have not been back again yet but I can get him to come even if he is playing or digging (all the fun stuff)
lilmisssascha83
Yeah that is what I have been doing with my girl. And my problem is if she is playing with other dogs she does come back to me. But if there is no other dogs and suddenly one comes in I lose her for a bit and then get her back again. Like by lose her I mean she goes over to say hi straight away even if I call her first. After she greets the dog she will come back to me but it's darn frusterating.

After she greets the dog she will come back to me but it's darn frusterating. I lose him completely, he would rather be with the other dogs.. He is fine with most dogs but for some reason when he encounters a shy dog, he gets all in their face and that is a recipe for disaster... Not to mention not fair on the shy dog... Effectively he is being a bully.. Which is odd because if bigger dogs get in his face he rolls over. He is non reactive if a dog has a go at him, he just leaves.. Which is good but it would be nice if I could just stop this unwanted behaviour... His recall and stay are really good here at home but non existent once we are out and I just don't know how to make him do it when we are out.. We are due for another session with the trainer and hopefully we can work on this next as he needs that off lead run as exercise.. Training at home in our yard even with ball retrieval is just not exhausting enough for him...
koalathebear
My two still go to Casey Dog Park every Sunday at around 10 am. We have seen different DOLers there at different times and Elbie and Hoover enjoy playing with all the dogs. They've played with DOLer dogs, Shelby the kelpie/GSD/staffy cross, they've played with a pit bull, a GSP, GSDs, numerous fluffies, labs, jugs, pugs and various other doggies. This morning they had a great time with Pepper the ACD: Unless it's raining, we'll be there! :) Edited June 24, 2012 by koalathebear
Ben and Jerry
Wasn't sure where to post this so thought I'd maybe try in here. Just saw on the TV that there has apparently been deliberate baiting in the ACT. Atleast one confirmed death from Corroboree Park in Ainslie (fairly certain that's where they said) little pink pellets are what they had been finding out there. Will post a link if I come across it. koalathebear
We still show up to Casey every week at 10am on Sunday with our monsters :) They have a blast. Some photos from the romps they've had. We've seen DOLer Clastic with her dog Pepper, DOLer kumaakita with her dog Kuma and DOLer wuffles with her dogs Satchmo and Ava. The dogs also enjoy playing with a bunch of different dogs that show up.
