A Bit Worried

... pretty much all you see is his os penis bone covered in some tissue and his urethra.

I have no idea what that would look like (you up to taking a photo? lol) but I can't help thinking it might describe Mandela's. It is more a bony looking thin thing with a bit of tissue covering it.

So, you don't use it, you lose it? lol

Well, it's nothing either of us have ever seen before. But in saying that, its not like we look at every dogs penis that comes in either. It is just that Orbit's comes out when he sits on my knee and one day I caught a glimpse and realised it looked way different to how it used to! Further investigation revealed he has no penis

I do have a photo but not sure if it would gross people out?

How about I pm it to you...

One of the things about DOL is that it is an awesomely educational base that people of all walks of life can have access to and discuss. I think you should just go ahead and post it. However, if others here say they wouldn't like to see Orbit's bit "in the name of education" then that's fair enough.

How about I pm it to you...

Lol .... if you'd prefer. It is pretty personal (for Orbit, at least).

If he is desexed I would have his penis checked just to be sure. A young poodle once came in doing something similar although his penis did look a little redder than normal. It was swabbed and I cannot remember what it was, but he had an infection. Course of tablets later and he stopped licking his penis and sheath

Ok I just took a better shot.. I'll put it up... sorry for the hijack :o

So when you pull back Orbit's sheath, this is all there is... and even then I had to put some pressure on the os penis to push it forward to get that much visible.

That's a good photo, Stormie. Poor Orbi with the vanishing Peni :(.

I tried to take a photo of Mandela's and, well, it didn't really work out.

I sent you a PM, Stormie. But it's in a different format and I'm not sure if you get notified the same way as we used to.

That is really unusual Stormie. I have not seen that before in a dog desexed or otherwise, but I guess as they were not my dogs I probably wouldn't have noticed.

Is it a particular condition or just one of those things?

Well we looked up everything we could think of to try and find a condition which does this and found nothing. So I guess maybe he's a little special? I thought maybe long term cortisone but yet Meh's boy has been on cortisone for the same amount of time and possibly even at slightly higher doses and his is still normal, so no idea!!

But yeah as you said, it's not like we look at the penis of every dog that comes in so maybe it's not that abnormal but we just don't notice?

For those who are worried about their dog's bits, I would just check it out with your vet next time you're in there. Better to be safe than sorry.

For the licking and er, um...once the vet gives the all clear, I would just distract the dog.
