Ferocious canine targets wallabies

IT'S big, likes to snarl its teeth, prowls the suburb streets night and day and has the taste for blood. Should this dog be allowed on our streets?

A small wallaby was the latest victim of the unwanted White Rock resident and the outcome could have brutal for the small creature if it wasn’t for a passing motorists who saved him.

The dog (pictured) also has a habit of bailing residents up in the street and many fear a young child will become victims of the mutt.

“This dog likes the thrill of a chase and a kill,” motorist and White Rock resident Charles Sowden told The Cairns Post yesterday.

“I have seen the dog bail an elderly couple up, my wife and also myself and next it could be a child especially if they turned to run away from it.

“We were lucky we were able to scare the dog away by screaming at it and my two sons caught the injured wallaby who had fallen into a canal.

“When we took the wallaby to a wildlife carer, he had another Joey there whose mother had been mauled by a dog so it’s happening to them all the time.

“In the last year or so I’ve seen 15 to 20 dead wallabies in White Rock and most of them would be victims of dogs, maybe one or two of them have been hit by a car.”

That is one fit looking dog

Makes me wonder though, if its been harassing the town for a while - why the hell hasnt it been caught be the ranger???? And if it cant be caught the usual way, trap it!!!

Poor wallabies!!

Poor dog too :(

That sounds like a really bad place to live.

Here is one of the comments on the article.

Since everyone else is adding their opinion, I just so happen to live next door to this dog. Not only does he get into my yard. but I also have two big dogs, and this dog causes no harm to my animals, so instead of jumping to conclusions , just because theirs this picture. what about the other ten dogs that roam the same street?? I will admit my dog occasionally gets out of the yard but Hey DOGS WILL BE DOGS and whoever wrotr about him round8ng up elderly , what about the black dog i had to fight off out of my yard last week?? Maybe all the dogs that get out of their property should be put down cause they are also a target to attack to the wallabes!! Not just this dog.

Did anyone read the rest of the comments?

One lady wrote about that dog approaching her and her kids and sitting for pats.. another case a bad journalism, yes the owners are at fault but so are all the other owners of dogs who're potentially chasing people/animals.

I was shocked by that comment and another comment.

It's basically saying let the dog roam, it's just doing what it's meant to do.

Attacking a baby wallaby is quite different to attacking people. Its basically the same as a dog that kills a rabbit. Which is sad and unfortunate, but doesn't necessarily make the dog a potential people killer. Though i absolutely agree the dog should be contained as is required by the law.

wow the media really live in their own world huh!

I agree with the comment asking why the ranger hasn't acted if the dog is this bad.

I also agree that killing a small wallaby hardly makes it a baby hunter or human killer.... it makes the mind boggle at the lack of understanding some people have.
