Shakti
Just saw this ad for some puppies.. *Beautiful dogs who love kids with personalities...* What happens if you have one of those boring kids with NO personality - do the puppies attack on sight!? :D
poodlemum
:D :p Grammatical errors in ads are one of MY pet peeves, as well!
bink
Yep, especially 'journalists' either online, newspaper or newsreaders. Drives me batty! I'm only 30 and we were hardly taught any grammar at school. Now I think they teach even less, and it's so important. Bad spelling gets me too!! their and they're etc. grrr
gspx3
As well as than instead of then and hes instead of his, your instead of you're (you are). Apostrophes are a totally different matter. Yes, I am a grammar and spelling pedant.

poodlefan
Am so sick of being assured my next consult will be complImentary!!!! I highly doubt that! I had the best coffee splurk moment in an email I received from our IT support folk at work. It apologised for the delay in responding to a request and for any incontinence caused. Aussienot
I saw in Metro mag that a man was assulted in his home by three large 'mails'. Didn't trust envelopes for a long while after that . . .

What am I missing? com·pli·men·ta·ry/ˌkämpləˈmentərē/Adjective 1. Expressing a compliment; praising or approving. 2. Given or supplied free of charge ETA, I'm an apostrophe nazi too. Akay
LOL Real estate ads can be pretty bad too! Story instead of storey is a big one. My biggest peeve at the moment is when people don't use the words "lie" and "lay" correctly. Today I will LIE in the sun, yesterday I LAY in the shade. Why does my dog LIE in the sun? Lay is the past tense of lie. When lay is used as the present tense it has to involve an object, ie. I lay the SHEETS on the bed, I lay the FORK on my plate. And in this context the past tense of lay is laid, ie. yesterday I laid the sheets on the bed, the chicken laid an egg.
Akay
The other one I hate too is when people say 'would of' and 'could of'. It's either would've, could've OR would have, could have. There's no OF involved.
Staranais
Affect vs effect is my other big pet peeve!
Pretty Miss Emma
The other one I hate too is when people say 'would of' and 'could of'. It's either would've, could've OR would have, could have. There's no OF involved. This one irks me a lot!! (note: a lot not alot!!). I have to say the one on DOL that really really gets my goat is "conformation" vs "confirmation"!!!!! Do people want to conform that the dog confirms or confiorm that the dog conforms!!!!? But it does make for some funny reading some times!! bink
Haha hillarious!! The one I hate most- really gets on my nerves is hypo and hyper... "my child was hypo all day"... Nope they weren't.... hypo means low!! I just give people the dumb stare now and they assume I don't know what they mean, but really I can't be bothered trying to explain anymore;) Edit: and 'z' specialise, socialise.... Can't stand American spellcheck, and so many people don't care Edited April 19, 2011 by bink
