RottnBullies
Hi I'm hoping someone can point me In the right direction on who to maybe contact when a dog has attacked someone and keeps getting out terrorizing people and other dogs constantly because the owner can't or won't contain her dogs? There are 3 of them but It's mainly the one that keeps doing this and bailing and rushing at people. I'm at a loss as to why the council has not slapped a DD order on this dog, they know which dogs they are and yet are not doing anything about It, police was actually called today and they were just as bad. This particular council has even gone as far to say to the person who rang numerous times already that she should keep ringing and then maybe something will be done!! I'm like WTF I'm just shaking my head here In total disgust when you get Innocent dogs dragged away from their homes who have done nothing wrong and are killed and yet these ones who have done the deed and they're free to keep roaming and causing havoc. I'm In no way even blaming the dog, but the owner Is constantly bragging how these are her protection dogs so that's enough In itself for alarm bells to be ringing, these dogs need to be contained why Is that so hard
Tilly
It might help if you can get footage as evidence ... and put it in writing.
Alyosha
Yep. A dangerous dog diary to start with. Keep contacting the police, when the dog is out or something happens. Unless you're in a really small town you're likely to get different people on the end of the phone with different levels of enthusiasm. Some cops are better versed in animal laws than others. megan_
Organise a meeting with the mayor? The local paper? Put all your concerns in writing, and let them know the council can be sued if they knew about the situation and did nothing.
Fynesse
Do some research so you know exactly what you can quote at the police Here is a hint: http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/maintop/...+87+1998+cd+0+N Nothing worse than a loose dog who is like the one described. Very dangerous!
poochmad
Wow, I'm surprised that the council won't do anything, especially with the media these days. However, if they aren't taking it seriously, I'd be contacting a newspaper or something similar.
RottnBullies
Thanks local paper Is being contacted, so hoping they print up a story which may shame the council Into doing their job. I just don't get It, why they can be so aggressive with harmless dogs and yet so laxed on where It's really needed Think I'll get the neighbours who have to live with this put It In writting too and threaten them to take It further If they continue to turn a blind eye Much appreciated
RottnBullies
Exactly poochmad I'm not being racist by saying this but do you think they're not doing anything maybe because she Is Aboriginal? I always hear that they kinda get away with lots of things, not sure how true that may be though ETA: Thanks for that link, I'm just really peeved because council knows very well what the laws are, and It should be dealt by them, first Edited April 13, 2011 by RottnBullies
Trisven13
We had the same thing happen in Albury. A guy who lived in the feral housing commission behind us had two small dogs and one large mixed breed dog. The two smalls dug into my yard and attacked one of our dogs - rangers didn't care. The big one jumped the fence and bailed Steve up, it bailed up an older woman on a scooter, bailed up an intellectually disabled boy behind our yard (so bad I thought I was going to have drag the kid over my fence) and bailed up numerous other people. He was impounded the time he jumped into our yard but was released to the owner without a problem. It took until the dog was wandering the streets trailing 20 metres of chain before the rangers finally impounded the dog and he was put to sleep - the rangers had the nerve to say to me they'd been trying to get the dog for months - PLEASE!!! Fynesse
Oh yes, council and the police know, only they expect that YOU don't! If you throw it in their face that you kow exactly what they should be doing, hopefully they will be more inclined to get off their butts!
poochmad
I still can't believe that council's would do nothing about this sort of thing. I complained about a dog years ago and the very same day the ranger did something about it. With all the horrendeous stories in the news, I shake my head in disbelief that people ignore these things. poodlefan
Up the ante. Write to your state member of parliament and if that doesn't work, take it to the local newspaper.

When I lived in Albury about 25 years ago we had trouble with a large Bull Terrier X that terrorised the neighbourhood. I was flat out to take my dog from the house onlead to my car in the driveway without this thing trying to attack us and walking in the street was out of the question. I rang the council who told me that they had been trying to get the dog kept in for ages but it kept escaping. I stated that if they fined them enough the owners would find a solution and promised to ring the council every time the dog was out. That is what I ended up doing, calling the council at least twice a day for several weeks until the only way they could get rid of me was to fine the moron owners enough to make them keep the dog in or get rid of it. No idea what they did with the dog in the end but I never saw it again.
Dogsfevr
Some councils don't have DD laws. One of our puppy owners is currently going through the court system as there council doesn't have laws regarding dangerous dogs. There 10 year old dog was mauled to death onlead
WreckitWhippet
If it's NSW, every council area falls under the CAA. I would personally call the cops if the dog is out and acting in an aggressive manner. I have done this when the ranger was not available and they acted very promptly and the issue was finally dealt with to my satisfaction.
raineth
I was going to suggest the same as poodlefan: talk to your local member. That's a really scummy situation its verys ad they are not doing anything about it. Recently I reported a dog to my council. The dog had charged my kids growling, circling, baring its teeth. It was a SWF, so I was a bit worried that they wouldn't take it seriously... but no they were really good, they took it seriously and followed it up immediately
