Here I go again - my girl is still not herself - lost her litter at 52 days - very early hours Wednesday morning she seems so sad - follows us around and looks where we had the last pup before we lost her - have searched the forum and found one breeder suggest some rescue remedy - gave her a little drop on her tongue this morning - also trying to make her happy by acting happy and encouraging her to be bright. She respond for a little while then goes back to being depressed - if I sit down she just want to lay on my lap. Won't leave me every where I go she follows.

I know they must get over it - but do I keep up the rescue remedy and how much? She is off her food - gave her some nutrigel and hand fed only takes a little - if it wasn't raining I'd take them all out for a walk to the park may lift her spirits.

I took her to my vet the morning she lost the pups and he checked nothing left behind and temp good - took her temp again last night and all good. My two older girls tend to dominate her a bit - she seems a bit scared of them sometimes.

She is an inside dog have 5 dogs at present - I think the other are feeling a little neglected - but trying to show them all attention.

This is my first time ever I have lost a whole litter and the first time I've bred this girl.

Hi - rescue remedy every hour or so a drop on her gums ..rather than tongue :( Lots of walks/games ..and don't let her mope /crawl on your lap . Invite her onto your lap at times.... but preferably don't cuddle her etc when she is so miserable ...let her lie somewhere and look sad.. her hormones will be all over the shop ..and she needs to recover from the actual whelping ......but don't give her attention at these times

Basically carry on as normal....

The food?

offer her raw or something nice- stick to one thing..and just do the put down for 10 minutes/pick up again thing. keep up the nutrigel, and if she will take it ..try her on an egg flip, made with lactose free milk - just a tiny drink a couple of times a day

So sorry to hear about the pups, I had a first timer lose her pups early once, was lucky enough to have a new born puppy to put on her. She loved that baby even though it was a completely different breed. All I can say is don't pamper her too much as she will pick up on your feelings and get more depressed. Try to keep routine as normal as possible.

Sorry about the pups, it's sad to see them so heartbroken and confused isn't it?

I had a first timer loser her single pup and she was all over the place for a week or so. I just allowed her to mope or do what she wanted for a couple of days then put her back with her best adult dog friend and treated her like nothing was unusual. Her dog friend was great, just lay with her and didn't want to play or anything.

This bitch went on to be a fantastic mum with her second litter (of five), not clingy or stupid, just perfect.

Your thread brings back sad memories of when my girl lost her entire second litter within 24 hours of being born. My girl is very maternal and adopted a stuffed toy and treated it as her baby. It took her a few weeks but she slowly returned to the girl she was. Mentally nothing I did helped with my girl so just patience. Hope your girl comes right soon.
