deerhound owner
I live in Chippendale in inner Sydney and I'm looking to find a new vet for the next time we need a checkup. I have been going to Sydney uni just up the road but have found them a bit expensive and I wasn't really happy with the service. Does anyone know of any good vets around this area? A quick google search turned up Glebe vet, Sydney animal hospital in Newtown/Stanmore and Balmain vet which are all within easy distance. Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences with these vets? Cheers

Meea
I live in Chippendale in inner Sydney and I'm looking to find a new vet for the next time we need a checkup. Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences with these vets?Cheers I live in Chippo too and take mine to Livingstone Rd Animal Hospital in Petersham because the Syd Animal Hospital in Erko, Stanmore and Matraville all belong to the same monopoly and are pretty underwhelming. I use the Uni vet for emergencies esp now they have 24 hr emergency if I can't get to ARC or Sash but all the regular vetting goes to Janet Cridland at LRAH just because she is the best. My neighbour uses the Glebe Rd vet and likes them. I have also heard good things about the Balmain Vet on Booth st. best of luck ps: which deerhound are you? edited for spellunk Edited April 6, 2011 by Meea

deerhound owner
Thanks for the suggestions I will look them all up, it's for my two indoor cats so they don't get into too much trouble (touch wood) mainly just need annual check ups and for vaccinations etc. ps: which deerhound are you? It's Hannah, we met at erskine park before chrissy, my deerhounds live with my folks but we talked about doing some walks in sydney park some time. hope that helps
Danois
I found the Uni good but too focused on running every test under the sun instead of starting with the basics - I ended up with a $1000 bill from them to be told my cat had an upset stomach. SAH - nup - been there done that and got the massive misdiagnosis. Good for anal glands only I have several vets in the vicinity but go to Pennant Hills. dancinbcs
Sandra Hodgins at Summer Hill Village Vet is an excellent vet. http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/summe...ian/summer-hill Sandra has worked for my vet at Austral for many years but only works one or two days a week there now because she has set up her own new practice at Summer Hill. She is a good all round vet and very good with repro work for breeders.
deerhound owner
Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I think I will start with one of the closer ones and work out from there if I don't like them. Unless anyone else has any bad experiences with them. Sydney uni charged me for two vet consults to vaccinate my two cats even through it only took one consults length of time. Our old vet at glenhaven was great and would happily check over 3 dogs in one consult. I just thought that was a bit steep but who knows maybe it's standard practice? KnucklesDutchnUs
We used to go to Sydney Animal Hospital in Erskineville many years ago and stopped going because their bed-side manner kept upsetting me (and my old dog). We now go to Annandale Animal Hospital and we LOVE them, all our dogs have loved them. We have two favourite vets at the clinic for their specialist knowledge (allergies / surgery) plus their bed-side manner is much better!

Danois
I know the one you mean - beside the pub. From the recommendations here, I'd drive 2 more minutes and go to the Livingstone Road vets.
