JAG
Sorry to hear this mini girl. I'm with Aziah on this one. It certainlysounds liek a drop in progesterone levels causing her to go into whelp early. I have a toy poodle bitch who has been mated twice and both times she lost her litters. First time at 10 days and second time at 8 days. The second time I was onto it early but my vet didn't fully believe that she would go early again. I took her into the clinic with one in the birth canal and I lost her that evening. I knew she would be dead but held hope that the porgesterone injection given would hold her for a few more days. That didn't happen. She had the last 2 puppies 2 days later. They survived for a day but their lungs were not fully developed and even in an incubator they were struggling to breath. If I were to do it again I would get blood test from 2 weeks out to moitor levels and administer tablets when required. The down side of it is your bitch will need a c - section as the progesterone doesn't have time to drop if you are giving it regularly. I am not sure what the chances of it happeneing again to yoru bitch but for me 2 times is too many..

Thanks Jag - its such a worry it almost makes you want to quit it all and just enjoy your dogs as pets - but will see how I feel a bit later down the track. We are lucky enough to have Phil Thomas a reproduction vet quite close so will do as you suggest if I go again - I don't think anyone can fully understand unless they have lived it the sadness it brings seeing those poor little mites struggling for breath and then their mum searching for them. Will take her to my general vet this week just to have her looked over again and then to the reproduction specialist when she next comes into season. She has become so fussy now as to eating was that way before the pups - can only really get her to eat chicken necks - also giving her some nutrigel - she is looking a little more happy now and actually played with the others for the first time since it happend last night - and she moved from my neck to the bottom of the bed (thank God!) last night so think she is getting over the experience - wish I could. thanks again.
