Sydney Million Paws Walk

I'm considering it.

Just out of interest, Leelaa you're going to bring Jenna but in another thread you said:

jenna is very aggressive towards strange dogs

This is what puts me off coming - dogs who should not be there. Surely if you know she does not like strange dogs then its better for her not to be put into the situation which will cause her anxiety/ stress?

Oooh see I just assumed that being a walk, everyone will have control over their dogs and won't be letting them go up to strange dogs willy nilly? I'm taking Orbit cause I think it will be good for him to get out amongst a whole lot of strange dogs, combined with the forwardness of a walk. Not that he's really DA, but he's not a fan of dogs rushing up to him.

I've never been to one before and just got a free pass through work so thought it might be good, but if they're just a free for all with people letting their dogs go all over the place, we might reconsider??

Looking at past years' photos, people don't seem too crowded - I was more questioning the wisdom of putting a dog which is aggressive around strange dogs amongst a hell of a lot of strange dogs.

I'd hope people would not let their dogs just bowl up to other dogs and get in their faces.

I expect that hope would be disappointed.

These walks are no place for dogs with aggression issues. You won't be able to control the actions of other owners.

I have been many times and the Sydney one can get quite congested at times and yes the dogs do get near each other . I would not take a DA dog . I actually go to blue mountains now as it has way fewer numbers and more space so you can keep space or let dogs say hello .

eta I have seen a quite DA dog at a walk and the owner was def not enjoying themselves , they eventually left red faced . I really do not know why they brought it , no dogs even got near it it started the min they got oout of the car and saw a dog  , so yes def do not assume that every dog there will be freindly and controlled .

Last time I went lots of people were letting their dogs go up to other dogs without asking first.

I also worry about DA dogs being there when they should not be. I don't think there is a place for DA dogs during crowded events like this.

I have been going for three years now and haven't seen a single aggressive incident. However, it does get crowded and you can't expect your dog to not be crowded by other dogs. However, no dog rushes at another dog (at least I haven't seen any). They just walk side by side or sit side by side. If your dog is likely to react to such a situation it is best not to take them.

For me and my dogs the Million Paws Walk at Homebush has always been a fun time. All dogs are on lead at all times.

I have pretty distinctive dogs, and I should be able to find CWEW, and Stonecutter I think also knows CWEW. Will the rest of you be able to find a Lappie, two JSs, Charlie, and a Vallhund? I imagine an Elkie would be pretty distinctive as well, especially once added to the other spitzes and Charlie. :D

Or should me meet somewhere specific. I don't know the park very well off the top of my head. Isn't there a cafe, though? Maybe we should meet there.

Maybe you could meet near the vet check area or one of the food stands- eg hills? These are all once you go inside though.

I would like to come but I have a lot of other things on this weekend so I'll have to see how I'm going. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun though.

Just look for a red doggie stroller with Charlie's head sticking out of it  (that's how he has been "walking" lately).

Next to it, will be a Japanese Spitz wearing a pink princess name tag and a black Ruffwear harness.

We will probably be parking at Newington and walk to the Olympic Park.

What time do you all planning to be there? Walk starts about 10am, so we are planning to be there about 9.30ish... so we can all meet at the entrance?

I think I'll probably go too with Zero - should be fun.

Last time we went, Zero was rushed by another dog who wouldn't let up about wanting to eat him - it's sad but it happens. Keep a close eye on your dog. :)

If I am there I will look for charlie in his pram and two jap spitzes!

Mindy will be the black labrador with a patch of fur missing fom her chest.

As well as a furry Finnish Lapphund and a excited Swedish Vallhund too :D

Ohh.. why does Mindy have fur missing from her chest?

Awesome!

I'll be keeping a close eye on Emmy... she tends to always surprise me when we are in public.

Mindy had allergy testing the other day.

It looks like she has had a serious operation though lol Though it was a only very minor procedure that she had.

She looks pretty strange now though.

I'm not sure how she'll go, she is actually scared of small dogs and is only used to wlaking with a big group of labs! So I think she will either be out of control with excitement or submissive and rolling on her back the whole time

Should be fun!
