Enzo is a stunner!!!

LOL, bane of my existence. My wrist is effing up quite severely at the moment, so I might not be grooming for much longer :D What's your other animal job? Is the pay as crappy? I got one weekend off with Scootie when he first flew over and then was back at work immediately. It sucks!!

I love the look of the Spinones, scruffers really appeal to me. :) And Dali is so cute too!!

E xx

PS: still haven't killed the mouthing menace thus far...

Hmm bit of a question here. We only have a couple of friends with dogs. One has a BYB Rotty pup that is the same age as Archie and our other friend (who is our neighbour) has just adopted a 9 month old Staffy x Labrador.

Both these dogs seem to get growly and aggressive towards Archie. Archie tends to jump up at their faces in play so maybe he just really annoys other dogs? Or do you think the other dogs are just aggressive?

He seems fine with every other dog he's met at puppy school though.

I'm interested in what this iggy scream sounds like as well! lol. Beautiful puppies everyone  my Barney is a grub at the moment. Spent the afternoon chasing his "big sister" Tilly and barking at my parents dog. He's now fast asleep with his head in his water bowl .

Enzo is a dear! What does a screaming Iggy sound like? I don't think I've ever actually met one.

Sounds like the dog is in mortal pain or fear.. charming sound lol. Iggies are very quirky and the scream is just one of their quirks.

Naomi, without seeing them its hard to say. If they are a bit older than Arch it could be that they are trying to discipline him if he's too full on. But that should just be a snarl and maybe a gentle lay down and then back off. But at their age they probably don't have the self control yet to know what is an acceptable about of discipline and may go over the top. Are they doing this as soon as they see each other or after a reasonable amout of play? If its after a reasonable amount of time, perhaps the pups are tired.

I have no problem with an older dog disciplining my pup if its warranted, but I take exception to another dog growling or snapping at any of my dogs for no reason.

With the Rottweiler pup, it is after a reasonable amount of play. So probably due to tiredness.

With the Staffy x, at first it seemed like a discipline thing. They played okay for a while but then the Staffy seemed to get fed up with Archie. Now whenever he sees Archie he seems to growl and try to bite Archie if he gets too close. We tried to walk them on together on neutral ground today and that seemed to work okay until Archie got too close to the Staffys owner and then he got really protective all of a sudden. I might steer clear of that dog for a while... It's a hard one because their Staffy gets along perfectly fine with another adult dog which makes me think it is just Archie.

Also, does anyone elses pup bark in their sleep? Archie doesn't open his mouth. It is more like a muffled bark.

Here is a new photo of my cheeky boy at 14 weeks old.

Barking in their sleep and suckling is one of their more endearing characteristics I think. I also love the growling and tail wagging in their sleep, yep they all do it.

At 9 months the Staffy is well and truly a teenager and is probably flexing his personality. There should be no reason for him to behave like that to a much younger pup if the pup is not hassling him and really the owner should correct the behaviour. Well I would, its not acceptable in my book. Too many owners just let this stuff go on and it can develop into unchecked and uncontrolled behaviour. Personally I would avoid the dog unless the owner starts to take some responsibility for its behaviour. Its probably not stupid enough to try that out on an adult dog as it would get flattened for it. Archie is an easy target and its not fair to put him in that situation and if he enters a fear period could shake his confidence with other dogs.

Sounds like with the Rotti, esp cause they are close in age, its tiredness. Seperate them or distract them with a toy or two for quieter play.

Again its hard to say without seeing them, but Aussies are pretty easy going dogs, they generally don't attract aggressive behaviour from others, esp at his age.

Oh he's so beautiful! Scootie does the bark-in-sleep very occasionally... but Tucker does it ALL THE TIME and he's 7! It's hilarious, he woofs thru his nose too.

Much to my embarrassment I've discovered the pup is quite dominating when I'm not around  . In puppy class (I've not been there, the teacher has handled him as I've been too busy working) he goes around humping all the other pups! Instructor and other students think it's hilarious, but I'm pretty ashamed LOL. Thankfully another pup told him off after he kept doing it and doing it and doing it and he took the hint. He's never humped in my presence and I'm actually pretty furious that no one told me. So he won't be going back again. The last thing I want is for him to think humping all and sundry is OK.

Barkly tells Scootie off if he pisses him off too much, but the Staffie behaviour seems a bit full on. I'd also be keeping them seperated. It kinda sucks when owners discourage normal behaviour (like one dog telling another dog off for being annoying and say they're 'vicious') but not correcting behaviour like bullying. Like SG said, the last thing you want is for Archie to be permanently damaged by a situation like this. I would ask the owner's opinion and see if he does it to any other dogs. Is the Staff x desexed? He miiiight be dominating him simply because Archie is a young male, but I could be completely off track. Did the place they adopted him from supply any info like that or was he a poundie?

The Staffy x is desexed and has gotten along fine with another adult dog that it has met. He must just dislike Archie? I dunno. I guess we'll be keeping them apart for a while. The Staffy x is a great dog otherwise. Completely calm and friendly. Unfortunately he was found abandoned near a highway with no history. :( Poor thing. I would love to adopt an adult dog one day. Maybe after OH and I have finished building our house... who knows?

But Archie had a great play with a friendly dog at the beach today. And this adult dog was shorter than him. :o

It was great because Archie hasn't worked up enough courage to go into the water yet (he'll get his paws wet but that's it), but when he saw this other dog run into the water he begun to copy! Archie wouldn't go as deep though. I hope I have a water dog because I love the beach.

Panzer, are you not taking Scooter to puppy school because he humped other dogs? Just making sure I haven't misread that.

I loooove puppy school. My friend and I can't wait to get our dogs into obedience and/or agility later on.

Nah, it's more because I am not there to see what he's doing with the other dogs and the instructor doesn't let me know what he does etc. Just says "he's good" and doesn't go into further detail. He gets a lot of socialisation and training as it is, and I'm going to sign him up to an obedience school in the next couple of weeks. I don't want him learning bad habits or having things pop up that I have no idea about because I can't supervise him... I don't want to put him in a bubble if you know what I mean, but I also don't want people scaring him or teaching him bad habits and me not finding out until it's an established behaviour. :)

edited for borked wrist typing erk.

That's fair enough Panzer. Sounds like you've found a good balance.

Speaking of obedience, my Crate Games DVD arrived today!! :)

I'll start the training tomorrow when Archie and I aren't so tired. Does anyone have this at the moment? And if so, how is your puppy going with it?

After much thought I decided to take Rebus to puppy classes after all and we both had a great time there were 4 other dogs there and at the end they let the puppies play just two at a time in one of the consultation rooms, Rebus went in with a staffy and they got on great both trying to hump each other :D dogs are so silly lol!! cant wait for next week :o
